Women’s
Ministries Annual Retreat
This weekend Women’s Ministries will hold its third annual retreat at the
Nassau Beach Hotel
under
the theme, “Women of Excellence Surrendering to God.” About two hundred
women from New Providence as well as the Family of Islands have registered
for this year’s retreat.
A renown Women’s Ministries
speaker at Camp Kulaqua Retreat in Florida will be our guest speaker. Mrs.
Wanda Davis has served as staff chaplain at Florida Hospital, East Orlando
since January 2001. Besides serving on various committees, she coordinates
several day-to-day activities which includes patient care, staff support,
community outreach, supervising chaplain volunteers.. She is also a
commissioned minister with the Florida Conference of SDA and is a member
of Altamonte Springs SDA Church For 11 years Mrs. Davis served in South
Central Conference as a chaplain at the Regional Medical Center in
Memphis, TN. She managed the Pastoral Care Department and supervised the
ministry for the entire 500 bed complex. She also taught at the Memphis
School of Religion, training pastors to do crisis ministry in hospitals.
Chaplain Davis has an
undergraduate degree in Social Work from Morgan State University in
Baltimore, MD and a Master of Religion from Andrews University in Berrien
Springs, Michigan.She received advanced training for Chaplaincy from
Kettering Hospital. She is married to Arthur Davis, and they have three
children, Jared, Arielle and Ethan. Chaplain Davis has preached and taught
throughout the United States on a range of subjects. She has appeared on
TV and radio and has several published articles to her credit. The text
that governs her life is Psalm 37:5 “Commit thy way unto the Lord. Trust
also in Him; and He shall bring it to pass.” Mrs. Iris Henry,
Women’s Ministries Director for the West Indies Union of Seventh-day
Adventists, Manadeville, Jamaica, will also be in attendance. We welcome
Chaplain Davis and WM Director Henry to our shores, and we look forward to
this weekend of spiritual rejuvenation.
Those sisters who are unable to be with us are requested to pray that as
we sit at Jesus’ feet and allow the Holy Spirit to penetrate our hearts,
we will surrender our will to God.
Conference to Give $10,000
for Hurricane Relief Again, the northern Islands of the Bahamas have been
impacted by another hurricane. In fact, it was only 18 months ago that
hurricane Jeanne and Frances devastated this area; and if that was not
enough, Hurricane Wilma wreaked havoc upon the same areas this past
Monday. I believe very few persons expected Wilma to do any significant
damage. We expected her to dump a few inches of rain and leave these
islands unscathed. However, as I discovered first hand on Tuesday of this
week as a member of the Prime Minister’s assessment team, the devastation
was worse than that brought on by the previous two hurricanes. Included
among the woes was the washing away of a 18 month-old infant. I met the
mother who quite naturally could not resist the tears. She was obviously
distressed over this unfortunate passing of her child. Also shaken by the
same was the hero, a young man who rescued numerous children and retrieved
this infant who was washed away. Recognizing the need for
immediate assistance, the Conference Executive Committee on Wednesday, a
day following the assessment trip to Grand Bahama, voted an amount of
$10,000 to assist with the relief efforts. Of course, this does not
prevent local churches from contributing to the effort, as the need is
great. We know that our pastors will give members the opportunity to do
so. Kudos to Pastor Peter Joseph and the members of Real Harvest who
initiated the process of giving last Wednesday night –Dr. L.A. Johnson,

Week of Prayer
at Bahamas Academy Elementary
Under
the theme "I Can Do My Best," Bahamas Academy Elementary began its
bi-annual Week of Prayer on October 17, 2005. The song “He Can, He Can”
further reinforced the theme along with the text Philippians 4:13; “I can
do all things through Christ who gives me strength.” The speaker for the
week, Elder Lebert McBean (our conference colporteur) used a five point
series of presentations to bring home the concept of doing “my best” for
the Lord:
1. Kindness
2. Respecting my seniors
3. Telling the truth
4. Obedience
5. Standing up for God no matter what
A lively song service conducted
daily by Mrs. Gaylene Lloyd set the stage for an inspiring worship service
which consisted of, among other things, dramatic presentations and musical
renditions. The students and teachers were at rapt attention each day as
they listened to the Bible stories about Jesus, Elijah, Elisha, Ananias
and Saphira, and Daniel and his friends which were punctuated with sound
spiritual advice.
The work of education and
redemption are one, so the children were encouraged daily to give their
hearts to the Lord. Several students indicated a willingness to submit
their hearts to their Friend, Jesus. Daily, prayer was offered on behalf
of our boys and girls. We believe that eternity will tell of the seed sown

Praise Reunion in Benefit Concert Praise Reunion Choir will host a
benefit concert in aid of Bridgette Bell’s medical fund on November 13,
2005, at 8:00 p.m. at the National Centre for the Performing Arts, Shirley
Street. The generous support of the SDA community is solicited. Tickets
have been sent to every church, so please see the person responsible for
tickets at your church.
Bahamas Academy Reunion Banquet Thanks to the many alumni and
friends of Bahamas Academy that supported this special event by their
attendance, advertisement and /or financial support. Many thanks to our
alumni that flew in for this special event. Thanks to all of the hard
working banquet committee members for a splendid job in making this event
an evening to remember. Your long hours of planning and hard work helped

In Love With A Non-Adventist?
It may seem natural to fall in love with anyone, even a non-Adventist
Christian. However, it is not wise to decide to have a non-Adventist
person as your life partner. God expects you to seriously court and marry
someone who shares your spiritual values and goals. Therefore, do not make
a decision to marry a non-Adventist. Wait until he or she has voluntarily
accepted what you believe the Bible teaches and has been practicing that
lifestyle for at least one year. The truth is, committed Adventist
Christians will not date or plan to marry someone who is not an Adventist.
Your pastor will not agree to marry you, if your partner is not a baptized
Adventist Christians. Getting married to someone who is baptized a few
weeks or days before the wedding is not a wise thing to do. Too often the
first and last Sabbath this new Adventist attends church is the Sabbath
before he or she gets married. A long-term commitment to Christ is needed
first. Marriage is too big a business to risk playing around. Seventh-day
Adventist members and pastors ought to take very seriously the time needed

Special Thank You To the Bahamas Conference of SDA Returning to
Nassau on October 19, 2005, Pastor T. Wilfred Adderley and his wife,
Shelia,send special and sincere thanks to all pastors, workers and
members of the SDA community for their prayers, calls and encouragement
during his illness and two months of radiation treatment in Miami. Both
the treatments and the minor surgery were successful. Pastor Adderley
says, “the lump removed was not cancerous. Praise the Lord!” While
Pastor Adderley was in prayer for healing on September 13, 2005, the Lord
gave him Mark 16:16-18 to testify before all His church that there is too
much lack of faith in His church. Those who will be ready for Christ’s
return must have a faith in God that will not shrink in the face of
adversity or compromise in prosperity. Pastor Adderley and his family are
asking for your continued prayers as he returns for follow-up visits next
month.
Nursing Position Available The Office of Education is accepting
applications for the position of school nurse at the Academy. Interested
persons may pick up applications from the school on Wulff Road. Completed
applications, along with all the relevant documents, must be submitted to

Nova Announcement All individuals interested in pursuing either a
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Business Administration or Human
Resources at Nova Southeastern University here in The Bahamas, starting in
July 2006, are invited to attend an informational meeting at the Hilton
Hotel tonight, Saturday, November 5, 2005 at 8 o’clock. The classes are
scheduled for Saturday nights and Sundays to accommodate Sabbath Keepers.

Hour of Gospel Music The Hour of Gospel Music at the Mary Ingraham
Home continues on a weekly basis at 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The schedule
for today, October 29, will be the New Providence SDA Church. Next week,
November 5, music will be provided by the Parkgate Church.

Masterguide Training/Church
History Course -Church Heritage Course begins this Sunday morning at
7:00 a.m. for all Masterguides in training. Other persons interested in
learning more about the history of the church in general and the
Seventh-day Adventist church in particular are invited to attend.

Pathfinder/Adventurer Council
Meeting/Pathfinder Exhibition -The Pathfinder Exhibition will be held on
Sunday, December 4th. All Pathfinder/Adventurer Directors are required
to attend a very important council meeting at 3:00 p.m. this Sunday at
the Hillview church, as important information relating to the exhibition
will be shared. It is important that each church be represented.
Adventist Burial Society
The regular meeting of the SDA Burial Society will convene on Monday,
November 7th, 2005, at 7:30 p.m. at the Grant’s Town Church Annex. Members
can become financial at this time. Persons interested in securing

Education Department of Centreville Church to Host Speech
Competition The Education Department of the Centreville Church extends an
invitation to all our sister churches to participate in a speech
competition to be held at the church on November 5, 2005 at 4:00 p.m.
Topic “The Television and Internet are Designed to Contaminate The Minds
of Christians.” Trophies and certificates will be awarded. Applications
forms and rules for the Speech Competition can be obtained at the Youth
Department of the Conference. Deadline for application will be October 22,

Rehearse All members of Praise Reunion choir are encouraged to attend

regular exercise club begins this Sunday Morning at 6:30 am at
Goodman’s Bay Park. Come and turn pounds into a firm trimmed body.

Paula Elkins from 3 ABN will be vising the Bahamas for one week. A
healthy Life style seminar and cooking classes will be held. The Cost of
the seminar will be $30.00 dollars. Register with Sister Duncombe as
there will be limited space for the cooking class. The cooking class is
limited to 100 persons. Churches or individuals who are responsible for
registering 20 or more persons will receive a five dollar discount. Men
will also receive special consideration.
