Stewardship Emphasis
There is
a tremendous phenomenon that is sweeping the United States of America and
the world. His name is Barack Obama. Here is an individual, despite
his humble upbringing, believes that he can be the President of the great
United States. In addition, our world seem to be in an upheaval:
cyclone in Myanmar (Burma) where millions have been displaced, and over
100,000 feared dead; earthquake in China where the death toll is over
10,000; a barrel of crude oil costing over $130.00, resulting in escalating
cost of food, gas, utilities and airline tickets thus causing everything
else to go up, except the salaries and wages of individuals; wild fires and
tornadoes throughout the United States; fires and murders even in our own
Bahamaland. What is the child of God to think of all of these things?
The child of God should run to
his/her Bible and develop a greater or more meaningful relationship with
Jesus Christ, through the study of HIS word and a powerful prayer life.
After all, Jesus is the "author and finisher of our faith." Matthew 24:6-8
has been telling us of all these things for a long time. We must live a life
of continual preparedness, and we must never give up our hope in Christ.
Hope to the Christian is like air to our lungs; we can't live long without
it.
Herbert E. Douglass in his little book, "How to survive in the 21st
Century," (sold at the Adventist Book Center) says "without hope, we face
the future without air in our spiritual lungs," Paul in Romans 8:24 tells us
that we are saved by hope. Douglass continues, "Hope is always best when
grounded in a person that we can trust absolutely. When we are troubled by
problems bigger than life we need a Person bigger than our problems." Psalms
37:3-4 supports him, "Trust in the Lord, and do good; dwell in the land, and
feed on His faithfulness. Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He shall
give you the desires of your heart."
That is why this weekend's program
is so important!! We are inviting ALL of our members to this Stewardship
Weekend so that we will apply ourselves to the word of God and see what
instructions He has therein for His people. You will be blessed, as we sit
at the feet of the Lord's servant, Dr. Gordon Botting, a Stewardship
specialist, with over 36 years of experience, from the Pacific Union
Conference of Seventh-day Adventists.
Each of us must possess the "audacity of hope." Hope in the coming of our
Lord! -Kenny V. Deveaux, Stewardship Director

Bahamas Academy
Stars Are Still Shining! This month has brought in
tremendous success for Bahamas Academy! Three of our students have done
exceptionally well in their academic pursuits. They are Genae Darville from
Grade 4, Ree-Anne Jones and Matthew Negre from Grade 6.
On Thursday, May 15, 2008, Michael
Negre was awarded second place in the Mathematics Competition sponsored by
the Ministry of Education in conjunction with the College of the Bahamas.
After one round of the competition, which was closely contested, Matthew
emerged in second place by a one point margin against the number one spot.
He was the recipient of many gift certificates, a scientific calculator and
many other gifts. Special thanks to the Ministry of Education, College of
The Bahamas, Mrs. Greta Kemp and the hardworking team that created an outlet
for our students to shine.
Genae, among other students from
our school, entered the "My Caribbean Essay/Speech Competition" sponsored by
Conde Nast Traveler in cooperation with the Caribbean Tourism Organization
coordinated by Bahamas Ministry of Tourism, Ministry of Education,
Toastmasters and Bahamas Hotel Association. Our school is honoured to
announce that Genae's essay qualified her to compete in the speech
competition on Thursday, May 22, 2008. She is among the top 20 students of
our nation. We have been blessed to rise to the top in two consecutive
years. Last year, Bahamas Academy was placed third. We wish Genae well as
she prepares for the final round of this competition.
Ree-Anne Jones was nominated the
Student of the Year for Bahamas Academy in the Bahamas Student of the Year
Foundation. She was placed as a finalist in the competition and was
awarded a $1,000.00 scholarship from Nassau Agencies. We are proud of Ree-Anne
and our other students who continue to make great strides in their academic
journey. Let us continue to pray and give toward the success of our school
as we make Bahamas Academy shine brighter and brighter each day. God is
still doing great things! Joan M. Scavella, Vice Principal, Elementary
