Focus On the New Bahamas Academy

Next month we shall converge upon the site of the new Bahamas Academy on Marshall Road for our Mid-year convention (Sabbath morning service)! Accordingly, we shall see for ourselves (if we haven't already seen) the progress made since we last gathered there for worship back in January of this year. I am pleased to report that much has been done to ensure the ongoing construction of the school.

Actual Work
In January the focus was on the installation of the bar joists. Since then they have all been installed; and so were the appropriate conduits for the electrical, plumbing, electronics, and other services. In fact, most of the second floor in the main building has been poured, and walls in preparation for the belt course and eventually the roof are being erected.

Because of Your Giving
Since January's convention, you and friends of Bahamas Academy have given a total of Twenty-six Thousand and Three Hundred dollars ($26,801.77) to the project! This amount, together with the United Development Fund (UDF) which comes from our churches weekly, has enabled us to do all the work accomplished since January. Additionally, the dollar-a-day initiative, in some of our churches, and members' regular-contributions have made and continue to make a difference. The following is an indication of the pattern of giving to date:

Churches                 Amount
Adelaide                  286.60
Berea                        1,500.00
Bethany                    24.63

Grant's Town          3,598.59
Hillview                  1,058.58
Johnson Park           2,605.33
Landrail Point        32.00
Living Faith            2,907.71
Maranatha               1,718.00
Message of Hope   41.00
New Englerston     315.00
New Macedonia     33.00
New Providence    431.20
Parkgate                  10.00

Others                     2,555.00

Recently a member handed me a pledge in an envelope for Bahamas Academy. Another member, in a matter of days, brought his pledge to headquarters. Also, a non-Adventist who views the weekly Adventists Speak TV program on Channel 11 called and arranged for the collection of a monetary donation. What is amazing about this is that the lady is partially bed-ridden, yet she felt the need to give toward the project. Yes, these and other similar stories speak to the generosity and willingness of many persons to give to Bahamas Academy. Again, I say on behalf of my colleagues a million thanks! Thanks to each of you; for whatever amount you give to assist us in moving the project forward.

Immediate Need As we bring into focus the immediate need in the current stage of construction, about One Million Dollars ($1000,000.00) will help us purchase and install the roof and all electrical materials. We believe that the Lord will use you and others to help meet this need.

Grant Proposal Now that the grant proposal is ready (thanks to Dr. Carey, Marie Rolle, John Garcia and the BA Steering Committee), we are in a position to receive additional funding. With this document delineating the cost of what has been done to date and what it will cost to complete the project, we are in a better position to request further assistance from financial institutions and others who may be willing to help us be ready for opening in September 2009. Together, with your little or much as well as mine, we can do the impossible. Therefore, I encourage you to be faithful, and God will continue to crown our efforts with success.

Looking Back Finally, it is comforting to look back over the few years since 2005, reflecting on what God has accomplished through the partners of Bahamas Academy. Were it not for you and Volunteer Bahamas Adventist (VBA) the ground on Marshall Road would be the same today. Continue to be faithful and committed, for "He who begun a good work will see it through to completion." He is simply giving us the opportunity to do our part. Thanks! - Dr. Leonard A. Johnson, President, Bahamas Conference of Seventh-day Adventists
