Pentecost and More is More Than a Program

Today, we join with more than 248,000 members of West Indies Union and over 2 million throughout the Inter-American Division of the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists, in culminating the activities of Pentecost and More 2008. Since the launching of this program in the Bahamas Conference last year, a lot of activities have been staged to promote it.

Soul-winning Avenue  Most of you have heard the conference administrators and the pastors promote Pentecost and More in our churches and at public gatherings. To some of you, it might have been just another program to keep you busy. However, this evangelistic thrust is more than a program.  It is a Spirit led avenue of soul-winning that involves every member of the church.  In every district on the Island of New Providence and on the Family Islands, we have had our seasons of revival, training and equipping, community outreach and reaping. And now we have come to the final stage of the season of reaping.

Oneness Needed As thousands of faithful members and visitors gather at the various centers of reaping in our conference, there is a spirit of optimism and joy in anticipation of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on the worshippers today. During the week we have been praying for the oneness that is necessary for a significant manifestation of the Holy Spirit to be evident. Just as the disciples got rid of their jealousies, selfishness, and striving for position before their experience at Pentecost, we must separate ourselves from whatever will prevent us from experiencing the unity that must be evident among those who will experience Pentecost and more. We must be united in love for God and for one another to have that special experience with Jesus and the Holy Spirit.

Miracles Expected At all the centers in the Bahamas Conference, we are expecting miracles of conversion to take place. Our three guest speakers have been presenting the plain truth from the Word of God to eager listeners. Dr. W. R. McMillan in North Andros, Pastor Antoine-Pierre Arbenzt at the Haitian Crusade in Nassau, and Pastor J. Wilmoth James at the Sweet Redemptive Crusade in Nassau are to be commended for accepting the challenge to be the voice of hope in their respective campaigns. We are certain that God will crown their effort with success. Because of their witness, many souls will give their lives to Jesus and rejoice in His salvation.

Focus on Baptism Because of the direction of the Holy Spirit, the faithful effort of pastors, Bible workers, and the support of members, we anticipate a good ingathering of souls. In fact, we are expecting to report a significant number of baptisms today. Let us ask God to send the Holy Spirit to bring conviction and salvation to those who are honest in heart. If you have not been baptized, and you hear the Spirit speaking to you, submit and be baptized.   May this be a truly Pentecostal experience for all of us who have chosen to worship God today. – Editor

Pastor Antoine-Pierre Arbentz and his family are in Nassau for the final weekend of the Revival

Spiritual Revival at Haitian Crusade  According to John 4:35, the fields “are white already to harvest.” These words came alive during the last four weeks as the power of the Holy Spirit moved under the white tent on Adderley Street, off Bernard Road, Fox Hill. Evangelist Antoine-Pierre Arbentz allowed the Lord to use him mightily each evening of the crusade. He taught the people what is expected of them as they prepare for the kingdom. Scores of sincere souls have made their decision to accept Jesus as their Lord and Saviour. We expect to experience Pentecost and more during today’s convocation.

Final Concert  Everyone is invited to the final concert of the Sweet Redemptive Crusade at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 16, 2008 under the tent. Come and enjoy good Christian music.

Bahamian Youth Making a Difference  The news is filled with negative comments about young people, especially the young men in our community. However, there are still some young people who are conscience, diligent and determined to be the best that they can be. They are truly making a difference in their speech, behavior and performance in the areas of their interest. The following are such youth that have made us proud of them:

Marcia Musgrove has been selected to represent the Bahamas at a workshop hosted by the Commonwealth of Learning, a branch of the Commonwealth of Nations. Since March 3, she has been in the Seychelles learning how to collaborate in online education projects. A team leader representing the Caribbean region, Marcia is one of 20 persons from 16 different countries. She is the daughter of John Musgrove, Sr. and Evelina Musgrove.

Leonardo Ferguson, the son of Leon and Francis Ferguson, set a new record in the senior boy’s shot put throw, winning a gold medal during the recent BAISS Track and Field events. He is also a member of the 2007 Adventist Jr. Basketball Championship team from the Message of Hope Tigers. At his church Leonardo serves as a Junior Deacon, church pianist, and a member of the Youth Choir.  He grew up in the Pathfinder Club currently serving as a Junior Counselor.

Torrie Knowles, an employee of the Bank of the Bahamas, was recently named Employee of the Year 2007. From the age of five, he attended Bahamas Academy and graduated from high school in 2003. While at the Academy, Torrie was involved in several school clubs. He was also a member of the first junior basketball team that later became the best senior team at Bahamas Academy. With three undefeated seasons in a row, they later became the division champion.

Presently enrolled in the Bachelor of Arts degree in Management at COB, Torrie is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Brian and Eleanor Knowles.

Health Tips of the Week  Health professionals tell us that Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. We need to pay attention to what the experts are saying. At last Wednesday’s meeting of the Sweet Redemptive Crusade, the following reasons were given for eating breakfast:

A good breakfast provides energy needed for the day.  It enhances your performance at work or at school.  It helps you to manage your weight better.  You are less likely to overeat when you eat breakfast.  It helps you to be smarter and more intelligent.   To prepare for breakfast, drink 4 – 6 glasses of water at least one hour before.
