New Branch Sabbath School Launched
On Sabbath, June 5, 2004, about forty-three persons, twenty-eight adults and fifteen children under 12 years, met together at 9:30 a.m. in Johnson Road, Fox-Hill to launch the newest Branch Sabbath School in the Bahamas Conference of Seventh-day Adventists. After a lively song service and welcome by Georgina Darville, L. Walters, gave the opening prayer, and Bonnie and the kids provided special music. Following testimonies of faith by Mark Cartwright, and others Dr. Leonard A. Johnson, President of Bahamas Conference of SDA gave brief remarks. He applauded the vision of Pastor W. T. Adderley and the Adelaide SDA Church Board for launching out in faith into the mission field of Johnson Road, Fox-Hill.  See  Photos

"Great things usually come from small beginnings," said Pastor Johnson, as he reminded the enthusiastic members of the miracle of feeding the five thousand from five loaves of bread and two fishes; and the small amount of meal and oil that fed Elijah, the widow and her son for three years during the drought. This is the program of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, to go into new areas spreading the Word of God and making disciples of men, women and children for the Lord. Now is the time to work and keep on working, so that from a Branch Sabbath School, the group would grow into another church to assist in preparing people for the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Pastor Adderley gave a brief history of events leading up to the launching of the Johnson Road Branch Sabbath School. After the "Let God Speak Crusade", conducted by Evangelist Guy Nembhard in October 2003, Georgina Darville was impressed to do more for the Lord in sharing her faith. In December, she shared her burden with Pastor Adderley. She wanted to start a Branch Sabbath School and, do Bible studies with her family, neighbours and friends. On January 26, 2004, Pastor Adderley visited her home and was shown a building that Mrs. Darville had recently constructed to operate a Day-Care Nursery. She told him that she would make it available for a Branch Sabbath School and Bible Studies. Touched by her sincere faith and remembering two dreams he had, Pastor Adderley thanked her for her generosity and said a prayer of praise and thanksgiving unto God. The first Bible Study, "Ten Great Facts About Jesus," was conducted on February 17, 2004, by Pastor Adderley, with an attendance of seven persons. Another study was held February 18, 2004, on "the Signs of the Second Coming of Christ," with ten persons attending. Because Pastor Adderley had to conduct a revival at the Good News Church (February 22-29, 2004), studies in Johnson Road ceased until March 4th, when Gabrial. Valleray was invited to conduct the weekly studies on Thursday Nights. On March 27, the Adelaide SDA Church voted to establish a Branch Sabbath School, and on May 11th the Church Board confirmed this by appointing leaders for this little flock. They also voted to officially launch this Evangelistic Outreach on Sabbath, June 5, 2004. On May 13, these plans were presented to the Conference Ministerial Meeting and were accepted unanimously.

After this brief history was given, Gabrial Valleray led out in a Bible Study entitled: "The Just Shall Live By Faith" (Romans 1:16,17). For the Divine Worship hour, the elders Valleray and Johnson, M. Cartwright and Blosson Velleray served on the platform.  The Youth of Adelaide sang and Pastor Adderley preached on the topic: "A New Beginning," taken from Rev. 1:8; 21:5,6 and Psalms. 19:1-6. He encouraged the members to share the Truth about God and Creation, Sin and Disobedience, Jesus and Redemption and God's Plan for Restoration. After the service, the

Adventist Men on the Move  Representing the Adventist Men’s Ministry 12 men joined four VBA members in North Andros this past weekend. The mission was threefold: (1) To examine God's mission and purpose for God's men in the Church; (2) To minister in music to the saints and witness to the community in the district; (3) To further advance the completion of the Lowe Sound Seventh-day Adventist Church that has been under construction for the past 15 years.  See Photos

The men met on Friday evening and listened attentively as Pastor Paul detailed from God's word the importance of men knowing and understanding their purpose. On Sabbath morning, Sabbath School was led by Brothers Kendal Curtis and Harrison Moxey. At the Divine Hour, lay evangelist, Brother David Williams declared the word, and the men's choir ministered in song.

After the service, we enjoyed a sumptuous North Andros meal, followed by a one-hour marriage seminar, an hour health seminar, and the Adventist men's concert which "brought the house down."

On Friday the Adventist men, led by church elder, Howard Barr, laid about five hundred blocks and began pitching the roof of the Fellowship Hall and Pastor's Vestry. Although the work taxed our strength and endurance, we look forward to returning to complete the job soon. -Pastor Paul A. Scavella

Volunteer Bahamas Adventist Up-date  Bahamas Conference wishes to thank Howard Barr and his recent team of VBA members who assisted with the Lowe Sound Church: Erskin Oliver, James Markland, Kendal Curtis, Admiral Forbes, and Edison Miller. They were accompanied by Pastor Paul Scavella and twelve Adventist men who held a weekend retreat at the Lowe Sound Church this past Labour Day weekend. According to Howard Barr, the work that the volunteers accomplished was awesome. In addition to pitching the roof on the extension of the Lowe Sound Cathedral, the men were able to lay about five hundred blocks. Plans are well on the way now for the church to be dedicated by year’s end. Thanks to all who have volunteered. VBA needs you!

Work to Resume on ELC  All VBA members and persons interested in volunteering are requested to contact Winston Ash at 394-1063 regarding the resumption of work at the Bahamas Academy Early Learning Center site. Your help is appreciated.

"No Rock In My Place"  During the week of May 24th, approximately one hundred persons joined forces in recognition of our ultimate duty; that of Praising and Worshipping God.... Using Luke 19:30-40 as our motivational mandate, prayer as a power line and our voices as weapons against the devil, we lifted up the name of Jesus in music praise and worship.  Click HERE

Sessions commenced on Monday, 24th of May at the Hillview SDA church, seasoned with empowering presentations, testimony and prayer. Topics included "Praise as a weapon in warfare against the devil," presented by Pastor T.Basil Sturrup, "Making Praise Accessible and Understandable," by Sis. Miriam Knowles; "Music as a tool in Ministry," by Sis Allison Mason, "Praise in Corporate Worship," by Tony Russell and "The Role of Music in Praise & Worship," by Pastor M.A. Smith. Each night presentations were complimented as we learned powerful songs of Praise and Worship, fueling participants to "get their praise on"

On Sabbath, May 29th, 'No Rock' participants shared songs of praise as we worshipped at the Hillview and Living Faith SDA churches. Under the direction of Dr. Marvin Smith (workshop facilitator), this newly formed "Praise Team" joyously offered voices in praise to our Creator. And as the praises went up, the blessings came down in a bountiful shower of inspiration. The 'No Rock in My Place' Music Praise and Worship Conference culminated with a Praise and Worship service on the May 30th. With 'no holds barred', it was not a concert, but an elevating worship experience with soul-stirring singing and heart-moving testimonies, under the conviction that ‘No Rock’ would stand in our place when it comes to praising and worshipping Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Dr. Marvin Smith and Listen-Up Youth Ministries would like to extend sincere gratitude to all of the conference musicians, presenters, section leaders, soloists, the praise team, pastors and members of Hillview and Living Faith Churches. We also offer our thanks and appreciation to the Bahamas Conference of SDA and all other persons who assisted and supported this joint experience.

We look forward to sharing with you again as we present 'Jesus Christ - the Positive Choice' - Your Friends @ LYM
