Pentecost and More Explosion
has begun. Be a part of this great witnessing and retention program. Every
member can be a part of the explosion. Every pastor, church leader, and
teacher can join in the power of the great explosion of God’s power. On
Saturday night, February 16, 2008, at 7:00 p.m., we will experience the
great power of Pentecost under the big white tent at the Queen Elizabeth
Sport Center opposite Government High School. Pastor James Wilmoth from the
Caribbean Union Conference of Seventh-day Adventists will be the evangelist.
Second World Conference on
Youth and Community Service (WCYCS) [See
Photos] This event
was
held under the theme, "Love, Care and Serve," from December 24, 2007 to
January 5, 2008 in Taipei, Taiwan. The aim of WCYCS is to involve young
people ages 16 - 35 years old in Mission and Evangelism. It is also a
celebration of what God is doing in the lives of young people.
Approximately 1,500 young persons and youth leaders from all around the
world attended this event. Two delegates from the Bahamas Conference, our
Youth Director, Pastor Andrew Burrows, and Shandera Smith, A.Y. leader,
attended this Conference.
As part of the 10/40
window, Taiwan has a population of 23 million, but there is less than 10,000
Seventh-day Adventists. The major religion is Buddhism (approximately 90%).
Therefore, this country was chosen to share the Three Angles' messages and
to give encouragement to the Mission in Taiwan.
To truly make an impact
on the people of Taiwan, this event was divided into two parts: (1)
Community Service Projects which were held from December 24 - 29, 2007.
Delegates from around the world participated in projects like teaching
English, classroom improvement projects, painting and construction that they
thoroughly enjoyed. (2) The Conference, which was held January 1 to 5, 2008
at the Taipei County Hall.
At the Conference
there were inspirational morning devotions, motivating and empowering
plenary sessions, informative Division Youth Reports, and thought provoking
and soul edifying evening devotions. Also, there were daily booth displays
of cultural goods and other products, as well as programs by the different
divisions and organizations.
Pastor Furman Fordham,
one of our speakers, encouraged us to fall in love with Jesus and have a
relationship with Him. Additionally, he encouraged us to have a life of
service, to be a dispenser of God's love. Our World Youth Director, Pastor
Baraka Muganda, strongly recommended that we adopt a purpose driven and
Christ centered lifestyle. On Sabbath, Pastor Mark Finley presented the
sermon entitled, "How to become a Superstar for God." He outlined four
characteristics of God's Superstars: (1) They know where to put their trust,
therefore they strive in adversity. (2) They know who they serve, therefore
they know their identity. (3)They know what they believe, therefore they
will not compromise. (4) God's superstars leave a legacy. At the end of the
service, he appealed to the youth that they should be who Christ calls them
to be.
On Saturday night, the
Conference climaxed with a Centennial concert where the West Indies Union
and the Caribbean Union delegates presented a musical presentation,
Caribbean Medley.
This Conference was a
wonderful life changing experience! The sermons, the seminars, the music,
the tours, the fellowship and the hospitality were truly wonderful!
The 3rd WCYCS will be in
South Africa in 2013, so plan now to attend and have your life
transformed! We look forward to sharing more information about the
conference and implementing some of the ideas and programs for the benefit
of our young people.
Above all, the conference was
a learning experience for our youth leaders. Our goal is to share with the
young people of our conference. Listen up for initiatives, events and
opportunities to participate as we love, care and serve. [See
