When We Move Beyond the Norm

In his autobiography, Just As I Am, Evangelist Billy Graham observes that “The message of God never changes .  . . But the methods of presenting that message do change -and in fact they must change if we are to keep pace with a changing world” (p.635). It is unlikely that anyone would disagree with this statement; for change in method, timing and approach is crucial if we are to reach today’s minds. In fact, Ellen White explains: “Means will be devised to reach hearts. Some of the methods used in this work will be different from the methods used in the work in the past...” Evangelism, p.105.

Family Islands Initiatives  Given the aforementioned my administrative colleagues and I, in conjunction with the Ministerial Department, set out on doing “things” differently this year. One was to launch our crusades earlier than usual and to begin in the Family Islands. This we did and today we are rejoicing over the fact that sixty plus persons were added to our church last weekend. This is remarkable as we are less than 2 weeks into February. However, it underscores the point that if we want different results, we must be prepared to do things differently. Apart from the numbers, consider the impact these meetings have had and continue to make on the members and by extension the local communities. This is especially so in those areas with non-resident pastors. Commendations to all the teams! The added good news is that more meetings are to come as North Andros, Crooked Island and Eleuthera are yet to launch. These will come shortly.

Mega Campaigns Near  In preparation for the two Nassau campaigns for both English and French speaking members, a series of revival meetings will kick off tomorrow. Again, I appeal to you for your support during the upcoming week as we meet for prayer and consecration in preparation for these outreach meetings. Pray especially for the speakers, Evangelists Wilmott James and Antoine Abentz and their families. Also, let’s pray for good health, one another, good weather and a positive response to our invitations by word of mouth, flyers, radio, television and through the internet. Only God knows the spouses, children and friends who will make a decision to follow Christ. Only God knows the level of revival and renewal that will result from these meetings, for there will be outreach and in reach impacts. My role and yours is to be faithful to the command to invite, encourage, and, if necessary, transport them to the meetings. And you can appreciate that if we do not attend, we cannot do these things effectively.

Pentecost & More It is all about doing the will of God while we have the opportunity to preach and witness publicly. What an opportunity! People continue to panic over the crime wave, searching for answers. Through our campaign, we have an opportunity to make a positive impact on our nation, healing and rescuing men and women from a life bent on vice and degradation, and directing them to one of peace and responsibility in Christ. The spirit of Pentecost must continue beyond the crusades as daily God provides us with opportunities to witness for Him. It is simply living each day for Christ and being what He wants us to be.

Finally, I extend a special welcome to Brenda Walsh of Kids’ Time of 3ABN. I trust that her ministry to the children this weekend will encourage them to continue to live for Jesus. Also, please remember the annual Seventh-day Adventist Law Enforcement and Civil Servants service scheduled for 4 o’clock this afternoon at Grant’s Town. A number of community leaders have confirmed their attendance. You are requested to lend your support in praying for these men and women who risk their lives for our country.   Happy Sabbath!

Health Expo in Eleuthera  The people of Eleuthera will never be the same again after the Island wide Health Expos put on by a team of Medical Missionaries from Wildwood Lifestyle Center in Wildwood Georgia.

A team of seven students and teachers chose to make good use of the right arm of the gospel, health ministry, in order to reach out to the people of Eleuthera.  Through this method, they were able to minister to the felt needs of the many communities they touched.  During their two-week stay, almost every day they were in another settlement - from Gregory Town to Tarpum Bay - then on to Harbour Island and Rock Sound.

It was so exciting to see them work.  God opened doors through the pastors and leaders of the Catholic and Anglican churches who opened the doors of their church halls to accommodate the Health Expo.   Our medical evangelists literally transformed the halls into 8 stations well decorated with huge  posters representing the Eight Laws of Health.  At each station there was  much to learn and do.  At the Nutrition station they got a brief health tip and got their BMI and percent body fat measured.  At the Exercise station they were given a step test.  At the Water station they were given valuable information on how to use hydrotherapy in simple home remedies.  Another station tested their lung capacity, and they relaxed to a soothing chair massage at another station.  They got their blood pressure and blood sugar tested, enjoyed a health presentation and got a personalized computer health analysis.

In each settlement, exactly one hour before the Expo began, the team covered the entire community, going door to door inviting people to the evenings program.  The response was awesome in each settlement.  Just about everyone  came out and left happy, knowledgeable and thankful for all they had seen and heard.  Truly, the health work is indeed the right arm of the gospel.  It opens doors beyond our expectation.

Pastor St Fleur and his team must be congratulated for hosting the program. - Idamae Hanna, Health Ministries Director
