Trade Show: A Unique Way to Witness (Application)
- On Sunday, February 27, 2005, the Second Annual Adventist Business
Owners and Professionals Trade Show will open under the same theme that was
used last year, "Service with Dignity and Integrity," at the Bahamas Academy
Gym. Because of the concern in our community about the attitude and quality
of service of people in various businesses that cater to the public, the
Trade Show Committee thought that it would be appropriate to use this theme
again. We believe that if Adventist Business Owners and Professionals
operate according to this theme, they will be powerful witnesses for Christ
and His Church. Online Application

The thinking in the business world is that "only the strong will survive."
Many times this means that "the strong" survive by trampling on or putting
others down. However, Adventist business people must use a different approach
to survive. We have to survive by helping one another. And that is the
underlying purpose of the Trade Show. It provides the opportunity for the
consumers and those who provide the goods and services to interact and network
for their mutual benefit. We must show that Adventist business persons can
give efficient, quality service with dignity and integrity.
Every effort is being made to provide a good program for the opening of
the Trade Show as well as for the rest of the day. We have invited
representatives from various Government ministries, including The Ministry of
Tourism and The Ministry of Financial Services and Investments. Also,
outstanding business persons from the private sector have been invited. Then
we have organized several seminars that will run throughout the day. They have
been arranged so that you will be able to attend all of them. Special
arrangements are being made to provide a delicious vegetarian lunch at a
reasonable price. This year’s Trade Show will be just as exciting as the first
one.
With more than 50 booths displaying the goods and services offered by
Adventist entrepreneurs last year, Adventists and people from the wider
community were amazed to see the diverse nature of Adventist businesses.
During this year’s Trade Show, we hope to have as many or more persons
participating. If you are the owner of a business and you have not registered
to participate in the Trade Show on February 27, please make haste and do it
now. For your convenience, we have included a Registration Form in this
edition of the Logos. Just fill it in, and send or take it to the Conference
Office on Monday, February 14.
Our original plan was to use two days (February 27 and 28) for the Trade
Show, but have made an adjustment to that plan. Since February 28 is not a
public holiday, just Sunday, February 27 will be used. We trust that this will
allow more persons to participate.

12 Weeks To Wellness Program Started On Monday at the Bahamas Academy
Gym, the 12 Weeks to Wellness program got off to a great start! The program
began with almost 400 participants all excited and ready for a lifestyle
change. Giving us a charge and encouragement during the opening ceremony were,
Hon. Glenys Hanna Martin, Minister of Transport and Aviation and Senator the
Hon. Dr. Marcus C. Bethel, Minister of Health. After the accolades and well
wishes, the excitement began with Marlene McKinney and the "let's get
acquainted" health hunt. We had three winners who each received a basket of
fruits and vegetables. Next, Nathlyn LaCroix made sure everyone found a buddy
and exchanged phone numbers so that they could encourage each other. Right on
her heals came Millicent Rollins with the exercise expectations, who led
participants in an invigorating 5 minutes of stretching. She was followed by
information on weekly monitoring and incentives from nurses Annamae Forbes and
Bernadette Rolle.
The main presentation of the evening was the introduction of the Ten
Challenges by Idamae Hanna. At the end, participants excitedly picked up their
T-shirts and folders and left inspired to start a new page in striving for a
healthier lifestyle. Program continues on Monday at 6 p.m. sharp!
Convention In Cat Island The weekend of January 14 - 16 saw our Cat
Island brethren come alive in convention 2005 with Pastor Boateng and Elder
Barr.
After door-to-door visitation, it was agreed that the Devil's Point Church
would join with the Seaview Church on Sabbath for worship, fellowship meal and
instructions.
Sabbath School superintendent Sister Cleare gave a hot welcome. Then Pastor
Boateng took the brethren back to the "mount of blessing" in study. My Lord,
what a time that was!
In the Divine Hour, Elder Barr held out the "Olive Branch" as he called the
church to hear what Jesus said in John 14: 1 - 6 . This message was very well
received.
Following the fellowship meal, Pastor Boateng highlighted the Conference
progress report, shared possible evangelistic expectations for Cat Island, and
heard the concerns and needs of the churches in their area. This meeting was
very informative, exciting and inspirational - concluding with a prayer
circle, parting gestures and laughter.
Convention in Eleuthera As Bahamasair touched down in Eleuthera on
Friday, January 21, 2005, the crisp air reminded one of the temperature of
North America. However, this was soon abated when Pastor Lynden Williams and
family, Elders and members of the Tarpum Bay S.D.A. welcomed the delegation
from the Bahamas Conference. Pastor Paul Scavella, Health Director and Men's
Ministries Coordinator, watered the souls of the brethren as he encouraged
them to remain steadfast. He opened the Convention with the Word from
Phillippians 3:6 - 10. He also alluded to Matthew chapter 16 when Jesus
questioned His disciples. The question for contemplation was, "Do we know
Jesus?" He emphasized the fact that we need to know Jesus in the power of His
resurrection. Jesus will give greater power in relation to our faith. We must
ensure that our faith is intact. We must build our faith so that we can move
mountains. The saints were admonished to look at the Mountain Mover instead of
the mountain. Souls were warmed, hearts responded with joy as the message was
delivered with great power and conviction. Despite the frigid temperatures,
members lingered a while longer to fellowship on the outside. Indeed God had
renewed their joy.
On Sabbath morning the delegation from the Bahamas Conference made a mighty
move once again as we traveled to the picturesque settlement of Bluff. All the
churches were represented at the Bluff S.D.A. Church. The Holy Spirit moved as
Dr. Michael Toote, Religious Liberty and Public Affairs Director, opened the
Word. His topic was, "To Die or Survive in 2005." He implored the members to
avoid negative impacts so that the church does not lose its mission. He told
the convention to remain focused on God and His Word. A church can commit
suicide if members do not attend church regularly. He encouraged the members
to come to church joyfully, with a willing heart. He emphasized that the foot
of the cross is the common denominator. We should also avoid indifferences,
stop making excuses, forgive and move on.
After a sumptuous meal provided by sister Jackie Williams and the faithful
members of the churches, it was time for workshops. Workshops were conducted
by Pastor Paul Scavella and Dr. Michael Toote. The members showed keen
interest as information was presented. Members questioned the Directors on the
areas of Health, Religious Liberty and Public Affairs, respectively. The
members were indeed blessed by the presentations and requested more assistance
in the areas of Health and Public Affairs. Pastors Scavella and Toote promised
to be of greater help to them as we endeavor to impact the region in a
profound way in 2005. As the convention came to a close, the members all
declared that it was a blessed thing to "come apart" and reflect on the
goodness of God.
