Fields Represented:
- Pastor Charles Blythe, Youth Director for
the West Indies Union Conference of Seventh-day Adventists was the
congenial host and made everyone feel welcome. Delegates from the
Bahamas, Turks and Caicos Islands, Cayman Islands, Jamaica, and the
United States of America attended. Led by the Youth Director, Pastor
Andrew Burrows, and the Assistant Youth Director, Curtis Bryan, over
ninety persons from the Bahamas Conference were in attendance.
-
- Spirit-filled Meetings
- The Camporee was spirit filled and highly
energized. Throughout the event the Pathfinder troops heard dynamic and
motivational sermons from various spiritual generals as they made the
plea to all for "total surrender." During Thursday morning's
inspirational assembly, Pastor Michael Harvey, President of the North
Jamaica Mission, stated that young people need to have more than just a
relationship with Jesus. What is needed, he stressed, is a commitment to
Jesus. The opening ceremony took place on Thursday evening with much
pomp, pageantry and patriotism as all delegates proudly cheered on their
Conferences and Missions during the processional of Fields and posting
of flags. Pastor Leonard Johnson, President of the Bahamas Conference
along with other field leaders brought greetings. The keynote address
for the evening was presented by Dr. Patrick Allen, President of the
West Indies Union. He encouraged the Pathfinders and Master Guides to
stand for truth as they fight their battles, surrender their talents and
submit their services to God.
-
- Stand Up for God
- The camporee was blessed to have for the
weekend the Youth Director of the General Conference, Pastor Baraka
Muganda. During the Inspirational Assembly on Friday morning, he urged
the troops to get rid of the ashes in their lives and keep the fire
burning for evangelism. On Friday evening, the vesper service was
presented by the Bahamas Conference and the Northern Bahamas Mission.
Pastor Andrew Burrows spoke on the topic "It's a Set Up". He implored
the youth to stand up for what is right. He emphasized that whenever we
go against God's will, we are setting ourselves up for a fall. He
encouraged the young people to stand up for God.
-
- Pathfinders and Evangelism
- On Sabbath morning, Pastor Balvin Braham,
Associate Director of Youth Ministries for the Inter American Division,
did his presentation on "The Basis of Evangelism." He noted the integral
role that Pathfinder Clubs should contribute to evangelism. He pointed
out that 2009 - 2010 would be the "Year of Evangelism" and challenged
the clubs to establish churches. In another session he also challenged
us to have a love relationship with Pathfinders. He stressed the
importance of all pastors and elders being active participants of the
Clubs. The Divine worship service like all other services was a
blessing. The Minister of Education for Jamaica, the Hon. Andrew Holness
brought greetings and lauded the Pathfinder's Organization for its
outstanding presence in the communities. He stated that he was so
impressed by the organization and would implement some of the Pathfinder
principles in his ministry. Pastor Baraka Muganda delivered the Sabbath
sermon on the topic "Shake, Run, Look. You are a Winner", with much
heavenly humor. He admonished young people not to give up on
Pathfinders, Master Guides, the church and the Bible, but keep their
eyes focused on Jesus, for these things will help us to be winners.
-
- Friendly Competition
- Many Pathfinders and Master Guides took
part in the various activities and events at Camporee. Some took
advantage of the various seminars on spiritual growth, and others
participated in the Honor segments. Pathfinder George Zonicle should be
commended for his participation in the Preaching competition, and we
applaud Chris Rafallani for taking part in the speed Bible competition.
-
- Involvement of the Pathfinder Band
- A significant part of being a Pathfinder
or a Master Guide is service. During the trip to Jamaica, some of the
members from the Band took part in community outreach. They visited St
Catherine's Infirmary and sang, prayed with and fed the occupants. It
was indeed a touching experience. Pathfinder Additionally, the
Pathfinder Band went to Spanish Town and displayed their talents
there. At camp the delegates had the Pathfinder and Masterguides Camporee
opportunity to socialize and take part in sports and band competitions.
The small Bahamas Conference delegation showed that they are a sporting
power by placing second behind the largest contingent, Central Jamaica
Conference. They also demonstrated their discipline and alertness by
winning the drill competition. Congratulations all for a job well done!

Ten Baptized Last Week
Under the direction of the Holy Spirit and the consistent effort of the
Health Crusade team, three precious souls made their decision for Christ and
were baptized last weekend at the New Providence Church. We congratulate
evangelist Delthony Gordon, Dr. Idamae Hanna and all who participated in
this Health Ministries outreach.
Brother Claval Hunter, a
student at Andrews University, should also be commended for leading out in
the Acts 7 Days initiative at Peardale. Praise God for seven souls who

Total Surrender
Camporee 2008 was indeed a mountain top experience. We left the camp more
inspired than when we came. Our passion for duty has been rekindled and we
have resolved to be committed to service. The sermon from Pastor Ryan
Simpson, Youth Ministries Director of the East Jamaica Conference still
resonates with us. He commanded us to "stand still and see the salvation of
the Lord. As soldiers in God's army we were called not to retreat, not to
defect but to "Total Surrender."- Denise Curtis, Delegate from Exuma
