Sturrup Conducts Week of Prayer at
Bahamas Academy Elementary
Under the theme “God Made Me
Special”, the elementary division of Bahamas Academy conducted its biannual
Week of Prayer Session. Pastor T. Basil Sturrup, Personal Ministries
Director of our conference was the presenter for this important week in the
life of our students.
Each day began with a song
service conducted by teachers and students alike. Our theme song was ‘God
Made Me Special’, and our main text Psalm 139:14 “I will praise you because
you made me in an amazing and wonderful way. What you have done is
wonderful. I know this very well.” Special music was provided daily by the
students.
One of the special
features of the Week of Prayer was a daily health talk. On Monday Mr. Major
emphasized the importance of drinking 6-8 glasses of water everyday. Pastor
Paul Scavella used the acronym CREATION;
[C-choices, R-rest, E-environment, A-activity, T-trust,
I-interpersonal relationships, O- outlook, N-nutrition ], to encourage the
children to foster good health principles. On Wednesday, Miss. Idamae Hanna
used her felt board, measuring spoon and bottled drinks to show the children
the effects of having too much sugar in their diet. She encouraged the
students to drink juices, water and not soda so that they can maintain a
healthy body. On Thursday, Mrs. Denise Johnson used some of our sixth grade
students to show a practical demonstration on how to practice good personal
hygiene. On Friday, Mr. Major and some students dramatized the importance
of getting enough rest so that they can function effectively as students
during the day. The health presentations were timely and the students
enjoyed the different modes of presentations, and learned important lessons
about having a healthy lifestyle.
Week of Prayer sessions are held at
school to further reinforce to the students the importance of maintaining a
solid relationship with the Lord, and Pastor Sturrup was very forceful in
bringing home that point to the students. He used a pitcher, a glass and
water to illustrate 5 nuggets of truth.
-
I am created in the image of
God.
-
I am blessed.
-
I have the freedom to choose.
-
By the grace of God, I want to
choose good over evil.
-
I can do all things through
Christ who strengthens me.
The vivid presentation with the
pitcher, glass and water allowed the students to see how special they are
and how God wants them to be like Him. Pastor Sturrup emphasized that
character is developed when students make good choices. He also encouraged
them to maintain a close relationship with the Lord through reading the
Bible and prayer.
The invitation was extended
for the children to make a commitment to God and scores of them responded
positively. God will keep his special children in His loving care, and
before long many will make the ultimate commitment to God. Thank you Pastor
Sturrup. We ask that you continue to pray for our children and our school.

Press Release by Pacific Press Publishing Association
As the date for the first-ever Ten
Commandments Day, May 7 nears; many Christians are preparing to show their
support through public demonstrations, church events, literature
distribution, and even the wearing of a Ten Commandments pin. Meanwhile,
Adventists see this as an opportunity to demonstrate that the Ten
Commandments are a reflection of God’s perfect, loving character, and that
all of the Commandments are still relevant and applicable today.
Twelve prominent Adventist
evangelists, including Dough Batchelor, Dwight Nelson, Lonnie Melashenko, Ty
Gibson, Shelley Quinn, and Mike Tucker, have joined together with Pacific
Press to publish The Ten Commandments Under Attack, a small,
inexpensive book to share with non-Adventists.
The Bahamas Conference of
Seventh-day Adventists has placed an initial order for 5,000 copies of this
book for distribution to share with friends, family, neighbors and
co-workers.

Prayer Attention
“Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord.” Isaiah 2:3. The
leadership of the world church calls for a revival of Prayer Ministry at all
levels within the body of SDA believers. The time has come for all of us to
examine ourselves in the light of this call to Prayer. Let us reach for the
high lands of spiritual refreshment and invigorating relationship with God
and escape from the valley of fleshly and Miasmic air. Look for more on
this next week. - Pastor P. Joseph, Prayer coordinator

Bahamas Conference Legal Aid Clinic
Do
you have a legal problem but
cannot
afford or locate a lawyer at the outset to handle your matter? We can
help! The Public Affairs and Religious Liberty Department of the Bahamas
Conference operates a Legal Aid Clinic to address the legal needs of
Adventists and the wider community with a focus of making justice accessible
to all. Among the biblical supports for such a program are the words of
Micah 6:8 “to do justice, love mercy and walk humbly with thy God.”
The Legal Aid
Clinic provides advice in most areas of Law within the Commonwealth of
the Bahamas. Some types of cases we handle include: Unemployment Matters,
Sabbath Employment Conflicts, Unfair Dismissal, Personal Injury,
Clinical/Professional Negligence, Divorce, Adoption, Affidavits, Wills and
Probate Matters, Notary Public Services, Property Matters, Alternative
Dispute Resolution, Contract Disputes
Persons may benefit from the Legal Aid Clinic by first making an appointment
and calling the conference. Everything you say to any of our lawyers at
Legal Aid is held in strictest confidence. At your appointment you will be
asked about your legal problem in order to determine how best to further
assist you. You can help us help you by having at hand all the facts,
documents, names and dates concerning your matter. Accordingly, we may give
you legal advice, information or a referral to another agency or programme.
We may provide you brief service such as making telephone calls or writing
letters on your behalf or we may, on the merits of your case, represent you
at a hearing or in court.
How we handle your case depends on what it is you want, what it takes to
resolve your matter and the availability of our legal aid staff. More
particularly, to qualify for our legal aid you must be of low or modest
income, reside in the Bahamas, have exhausted pastoral or other non-legal
services available to you and have a civil or criminal legal problem. Our
service is free except for a small administrative fee.
Additionally, we provide education to groups and organizations of poor or
needy people concerning their legal rights in order to prevent certain
problems from occurring in the future. Our mission is to advocate, not for
profit, in general areas of law and to provide equal access to justice,
without regard to race, religion or ethnicity, thereby ministering in
Christ’s stead to uplift the least of humanity in our society.
Finally, it is important to us that we hear from you as to your opinion of
our services. If you do not like something we have done, we urge you to
tell us. Feel free to make a suggestion as to how our services may be
improved. Your views or concerns are taken seriously and in good faith.
Help us help each other as together we enable victims to become victors
through compassionate Christocentric legal aid services. -Dr. M. D. Toote,
PARL Director, Attorney-at-law
