Turning a Losing Church Into a Winning Church

I am deeply concerned about how bereft our churches are of Prayer Partner Ministry.  Certainly, we have had volumes of presentations on prayer.  Yet, the gnawing absence of an effective, organized and consistent prayer ministry in our local churches remain chillingly obvious.  Clearly, Satan has launched a protest against the presentation of the word, on prayer.  “But when they have heard, Satan cometh immediately and taketh away the word that was sown in the hearts.”  (Mark 4:15).  When Satan launches a protest against the word of prayer he uses a number of carnal weapons, aimed at the flesh.

  1. Distractions of all sorts

  2. Wandering thoughts in prayer

  3. Fleshly desires of all sorts

  4. Confusion that requires more  talking than praying for spiritual enlightenment.

Every time a presentation on prayer is delivered, Satan immediately launches a protest against the word.  Hence, prayer becomes a much discussed and talked about subject, while very little praying gets done.  Why does Satan continue his protest?  He knows the multipurpose nature of prayer partner ministry.  Let me share them with you briefly.  When pastors pray for their members, and members pray for their pastors, the whole body, from head to toes, is formed for spiritual life and growth.  Notice that at creation, the body of Adam had to be formed before God could breathe life into him.  In like manner, at the beginning of the Christian church, the body of believers had to be formed before the Holy Spirit breathe new life into the church.  This formation is the mystical unity of the church that prepares the believers for spiritual life, and growth, without which the church declines and dies.

So, by careful observation, we see that prayer partner ministry prepares the body for the life giving presence of the Holy Spirit.  It unites the believers for integrated fellowship and activity.  Moreover, it empowers the believers to stand against the wiles of the devil for personal and corporate victories.  So, prayer partner ministry achieves purposes that depreciate Satan’s kingdom and elevates Christ’s kingdom.  These are, Receiving the Holy Spirit, Unity, and Power.  In order to defeat the church, Satan protest against actually praying.  (to be continued)  -Pastor P. Joseph
