Bible Conference 2001

Adventist Bible Conference 2001proved refreshing, enlightening, informative and relevant during the weekend of November 16-18 at the Hillview Seventh-day Adventist Church. Ensuring these results was Pastor Martin F. Hanna, a Ph.D candidate in Systematic Theology at The Theological Seminary, at Andrews University, Berrien Springs, Michigan.

Approaching each lecture with a breath of depth, applying the skill of a surgeon, Pastor Hanna, Acting Chairman of the Department of Religion at Northern Carribean University, ventured into familiar and unfamiliar territories. Employing the events of September 11, 2001, Pastor Martin discussed on Friday’s opening of the Conference, the “Master Plan Revealed: Cracking the Code”. On Sabbath morning at Hillview he addressed the topic “Master Minds Under Cover: Secret Agents in Action”. During the Sabbath afternoon at Conference 2001 “Sword Master: How to Handle a Two Edged Sword” was presented, and the final topic of “Mastering Labour Pains: Knowing When To Push” was discussed on Sunday evening, the close of the Bible Conference.

Essentially, these studies focused on an apparent controversy between science and religion showing us that they harmonize; also, how the gospel is revealed to us through Christ, nature and scripture. Additionally, through his simple but profound approach to the Bible, Pastor Hanna showed how all members may understand the Word of God even without formal training as theologians.

An outstanding feature of this year’s Conference was the significant amount of time allotted for questions and answers. Pastor Hanna demonstrated a sense of calm, knowledge, wisdom and experience in responding to each question.

Overall, the Bible Conference was among the best conducted thus far. Indeed this is a notable achievement for Pastor Martin, a native son of the soil, who formerly taught and pastored in the Bahamas. -Editor

Northern Region Crusade

To God be the glory, great things He has done. October 21, 2001, the English Churches launched out by faith into three weeks of campaign for the Lord. Evangelist Paul had to place his complete trust in the Lord as things looked bleak the Sabbath before. Recognizing that the battle is not ours but the Lord’s, he and his team moved out in faith. God’s reassuring voice gently reminded the Evangelist that He would never leave us nor forsake His people and mission.

With that assurance, a three-week assault was launched on the devil’s territory, as with a fresh unique style, the Evangelist shared health and doctrinal principles from God’s word.

The music of the meeting was exciting; the ushers were dynamic and faithful; the parking attendants were unlike any other; decorators inspired, platform participants were lively; the technicians kept us afloat; the choristers were punctual and lively, and who can forget “look in the eye” and “I love you” time.

Indeed, while there were doubters, there is no doubt that this was the Holy Spirit’s Crusade. Today we can give God the glory for forty-one precious souls that were baptized and born into the kingdom of God.

Additionally, the Bethseda Church with Evangelist Myrtil, Pastor Tinker and team, baptized twelve precious souls. In Abaco, the Salem Church baptized four precious souls.

In the Abaco district, we also give God the praise for the formation of the Crossing Rock and Cooper’s Town companies. Pastor Scavella will be visiting these groups on the weekend of December 15th. New Providence Church Celebrating 25th Anniversary

The New Providence Church Family concludes their celebrations marking their churhes 25th Silver Anniversary tomorrow. Pastor Roger Moncur, district pastor of Abaco will deliver the message this morning, and special music will be provided by choirs from New Providence and special guest, Charles Haugabrooks. Charles Haugabrooks will be the main artist at this afternoon’s concert beginning at 5. All interested persons are invited to attend. A freewill offering will be collected. -V. Kelly

Children’s Ministries

Sabbath, November 10 was the climax of five weeks of extensive study of the Gospel of Mark for many of our children. A total of nine children ages 7-12 years represented six of our churches. Placing 1st in the 7-9 age category was Kenreah Brown from Hillview; Gabriel Moxey of Grant’s Town emerged 2nd, and Jeroma Brown from Good News placed 3rd.

For the second category, ages 10-12, 1st place was captured by Daphne Adderley from Hillview; 2nd place was won by Melissa Moxey of Grant’s Town, and placing 3rd was Cristy Creighton from Good News. Kenreah was successful in attaining the highest percentage score in the entire challenge quiz.

Congratulations to all of our contestants, but most of all to Kenreah and Daphne who will represent the Bahamas at the Union level on Dec. 8, 2001 in Mandeville, Jamaica. Please continue to encourage and pray for these children as they continue their studies. Special thanks to all the C.M. leaders and others who assisted in the entire exercise. Thanks also to you who supported as with your presence. May God bless you. R. Smith

Northern Region Bible Conference 2001

On the heels of the Path To Life Crusade 2001, the Grand Bahama church family entered into its 2nd annual Bible Conference under the theme, “One Lord, One Faith, One Baptism”. Dr. George Knight led God’s people into the study of Revelation chapters 10-14 explaining the balance between God’s Law and the Faith of Jesus. If we have one without the other we have nothing. The members filled the Freeport church each night as God’s anointing filled each heart. To God be the glory.

“Heaven’s Child”

The Christmas season is right around the corner, and what better way to begin this festive season than by enjoying a night of Christmas music and drama presented by the students and teachers of Bahamas Academy Secondary School. Yes, the school and teachers have combined to present the cantata entitled “Heaven’s Child”. Do you think we’ll get the Principal and Business Manager to sing with us this year? Well, come and see...The cantata is on Sunday, December 2, 7:00 p.m. at the Hillview Church.

North East Youth Federation Visits Long Island

The weekend of October 19-21, 2001 will be remembered as a time when God’s blessings overflowed in a mighty way. Representatives from the Northeast Youth Federation set off on their third evangelistic trip, this time to Deadman’s Cay, Long Island. Under the theme “Walking with God”, Phyllis Woodside, Nigel Forbes and Adrian Russell accepted the challenge to be used by God.

The anxious party of three were greeted by the smiling and excited Carla Rogers who informed the group that their presence was greatly anticipated. The small, quaint church in Scrub Hill was the site for the morning and divine hour programme.

Sabbath School was truly a time of interaction, fellowship and worship. The surprise solo by Sis. Woodside, the testimony by Bro. Forbes, and the skit, “Does the shoe fit?” illustrated the importance of a close and personal walk with God.

Blessings continued during the Divine Hour. Praise and Worship were an uplifting and moving rendition of praise and adoration to God. The special music by 2D and the children’s story by Sis. Carla Rogers created a beautiful prelude to the sermon which followed.

No doubt, God’s presence was felt as Bro. Adrian Russell profoundly proclaimed the word of God. His passionate, direct and personal style was a refreshing blessing. Matt. 6:33, James 1:12 and Psalms 34 provided the biblical basis for his sermon. This young preacher admonished his congregation to become serious committed Christians never losing sight of the prize. He stressed that the Lord’s coming is near and He is shaping us down here so that we can fit in up there. His personal testimony at the end was a reminder that God can do so much with so little; turning broken objects into beautiful

instruments. The response by the church is indicative that a budding preacher is in the making.

The church was presented with various E.G. White’s books which will be used by the church in its evangelistic endeavours.

The day ended with a fellowship lunch and an innovative A.Y. in the home of Bro. & Sis. Peter Strachan. This comfortable warm setting was ideal for the upbeat songs, group activities, special presentation and vesper hour.

Members of the Stevens SDA church will long be remembered as an enthusiastic, gracious and loving church.

As the sun set over the Long Island sky and our flight ascended in the air, a silent prayer was offered up to God for another successful endeavour. Indeed, “God is able to do as much with so little”. -President, Phillis Woodside
