Lady Pindling Speaks at BA Secondary Graduation
Lady Pindling was the guest speaker at the graduation ceremony for the 2001 senior class of Bahamas Academy Secondary School on Sunday, June 10, 2001, at the Nassau Marriott Crystal Palace Hotel. She expressed thanks to the Adventist community for the love and care given her late husband, Sir Lynden Pindling, former Prime Minister of the Bahamas, during the last years of his life.

Speaking on "The Three D's," she encouraged the graduates to be disciplined, dedicated, and daring. She referred to her husband as a well-disciplined man who made it his policy never to be late for an appointment. He regarded being late, as an insult to those with whom the appointment was made and a sign of personal failure. She stated that Sir Lynden disciplined and dedicated himself in a daring struggle to better conditions of the Bahamian people. She expressed concern about the direction in which our young men are heading and encouraged the men in the class of 2001 to be disciplined and purposeful. She said that unless they exercised discipline in their daily activities, their lives would be meaningless. However, if properly disciplined, fully dedicated, and daring, and with Christ in their hearts, they would have the keys to a successful life.

Also attending the ceremony was Nadeen Campbell-Brown, Associate Director of Public Relations of Northern Caribbean University. She presented several scholarships to some graduates who are planning to attend NCU (Northern Caribbean University is the leading tertiary institution in the West Indies Union Conference of Seventh-day Adventists).

Among the 49 graduates, 14 maintained their position on the Principal's Honour Roll during their stay at Bahamas Academy. They are Romeo Chuno, Alexia Fernander, Stephanie Forbes, Morgan Gilbert, Tuula Johnson, Treval Longley, Marcia Meeres, Sarchyme Miller, Latoya Nottage, Natiesh Palmer, Ariman Russells, Devanti Smith, LayShay Thompson, and Carlisa Wright.

Two outstanding students, LaShay Thompson, the Valedictorian, and Morgan Gilbert, Salutatorian, received cash awards of $1,000 and $500, respectively, from the Academy. Both graduates also received the Joseph Evans Science Awards.

Parents and friends packed the hall and gave enthusiastic support to the graduates as they received their awards and certificates on this grand occasion.- J. Carey/B.Brennen

REMEMBERING AN OUTSTANDING BIBLE WORKER/COLPORTEUR

Gone but never to be forgotten is Sister Arimentha Colebrooke whose demise has saddened the Seventh-day Adventist community and immediate members of her family.

Baptized in 1938 through the witness of Ida Bostfield, a neighbour who invited her to a gospel series conducted by Pastor M. G. Nemhard, Sis. Colbrooks joined the Grant's Town SDA Church where she held membership for 63 years.

Her love for the Lord Jesus motivated her to become a full-time Literature Evangelist who traversed the country spreading the everlasting gospel through the "printed pages," like the "leaves of Autumn." Upon the arrival of Pastor L. V. McMillan from seminary and the thrill of "big tent" evangelism, Arimentha became totally absorbed as a Bible Worker under the supervision of her mentor, Evangelist McMillan.

Sis. Colbrooke was a firm believer in Christian education. She worked and sacrificed to keep her children in the Hawkins Hill All-Aged School, currently Bahamas Academy. In this, Arimentha was determined to provide a better quality of life for her children than she ever enjoyed.

She was a woman driven by her love for the church and served within a number of auxiliaries, including the Pathfinders Club and Dorcas Society, with distinction, believing always that membership requires total commitment. Additionally, she was a longstanding member of the choir, but never restricted herself to ministry within the church. Indeed, Arimentha's influence knew no bounds as she engaged in caring for the homeless, feeding the hungry, clothing the naked and befriending the lonely. As a community builder, she always sought to maintain cordial relations with paupers and princes and could often be seen mingling with misguided men and women whom she always treated as candidates for the kingdom of heaven.

Her sickness a few years ago rendered her incapable of doing Bible work which she passionately loved. Nevertheless, she prayed for and counseled others as best as she knew how. The saying is apropos. "How beautiful . . ..are the feet of those who bring good news, who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings, who proclaim salvation, who say to Zion, your God reigns!" Isa. 52:7. The disposition of this spiritual warrior will long be etched on the minds of many. Sleep on, Great Soldier of Christ. -Editorial Staff
