THE LOGOS A Bahamas Conference of Seventh-day Adventists Weekly Publication Volume 6, Number 31, August 4, 2001

Global Mission Impact in Cooper's Town, Abaco In keeping with the Global Mission thrust of the worldwide Seventh-day Adventist Church, the Bahamas Conference took the initiative several years ago to enter a new territory in Abaco. The selected territory was Cooper's Town and the intent was to establish a church there to facilitate the proclamation of the three angles' messages in the northern territory of Abaco.

On Monday, July 9, 2001, the Abundant Life Crusade and Health Lectures got under way at the secondary school in Cooper's Town with Pastor Milton G. Gregory, West Indies Union Health Ministries Director. Each night Evangelist Gregory presented a Health Lecture followed by a Gospel presentation on the beliefs of the Seventh-day Adventist Church as taken from the Scriptures. Such a combination of messages kept the audience enraptured each night.

With the support of Sis. Haycinth Virtue and Bro. Devon Thomas from Jamaica, Elder Roger Sands, Branch Sabbath School Leader in Cooper's Town, the Marsh Harbour Church members and the remainder of the crusade team, persons worked vigorously throughout the meetings to make them a success.

Throughout the meetings God was at work. The power of God was seen when Bro. Thomas was invited by the pastor of the largest church in Cooper's Town to bring greetings to the members during a Sunday morning service as well as the prayer during the service. In addition, the Island Administrator indicated that he is looking forward to the SDA Church coming to Cooper's Town.

The conclusion of the crusade on Sabbath, July 28 witnessed a blessed occasion when seven precious souls were baptized. Though this number may seem small to some of you, this has been a great achievement in securing a respectable foothold for the Adventist church in the Family Island Community of Cooper's Town.

We are looking forward to another baptism shortly as we are continuing to work with additional persons who attended the crusade but are still in the valley of decision. We ask that you continue to pray for us in our work in Cooper's Town as we seek now to establish the company there even further and then prepare to raise up another company in the southern end of the Island. -Pastor H. Roger Moncur

Adventurers' Camp a success

The Adventurers' camp began the same way the Pathfinder camp began, with lots of rain, but parents just kept coming. In total we had 66 campers, and on Monday had to turn away more than 10 parents, owing to lack of tents. All of the little ones had a wonderful time and although some cried at nights they had fun during the day time.

The children were taken to the Ardastra and the Botanical Gardens I can assure you that they had a wonderful day away from the strictness of Mr. Creighton. The pizza was plentiful and the playground was great at the Botanical Gardens; they even enjoyed the bus ride to and fro. The rain came almost every day or night, but clairvoyant Ray Jennings always knew beforehand that the rain was coming, so we were always prepared.

On Sabbath morning, parents came to see their children in action and they stayed and had lunch with us. They were able to see firsthand the kind of food their children were given each day. Fifth-grader Cristy Creighton delivered the Sabbath sermon and all who heard were blessed. The camp ended with a grand social for all the kids, who had to be forced to go to bed at about 1:00 a.m.

On Sunday as the children left, some parents stayed and helped to break down and clean up the camp-ground. We all had fruits and drinks, sat and laughed and remembered our youthful camping days. Pastor Clarke and Mr. Rohan Creightion, Camp co-ordinator, say thank you to the following persons for their support during the Adventurers' camp: Brothers Barry Saunders, Ray Jennings, Philip Meadows, Philip Humes, Sean Gibson and Sean's Air-Conditioning, Raymond Rahming and Elvardo Perpall. Special thank you to the following ladies: Sisters Blanche Middleton, Delrose Thompson, Olive Miller, Bernardette Butler, Sherry Burrows, Sabrina Lockhart, Patrice Clarke, Denise Johnson, Estelle Gibson and Marilyn Bonamy.

Heartfelt thanks are extended to the following companies: Chelsea's Choice, BWP, D'Albenas, Bonamy's Plumbing and Sean Refrigeration and Air-conditioning for their generous donations to the camp. We solicit your patronage of these companies, who year after year give graciously to our camps.

To all of the churches and parents who supported the camp, we say thank you. To all of the pastors, led by Pastor K. D. Albury, Conference president who came and brought fruits in abundance, we say thanks and look forward to next year. -Curtis Bryan
