ADVENTIST COUNSELING BEGINS

A new era begins in our Conference. It is another practical application of our caring spirit. It is the beginning of Adventist Counseling Services. Professional counseling is now available for all Adventists by an Adventist. Barrington Brennen, a professionally trained counseling psychologist, will provide counseling with a Christian perspective for relationship and emotional issues, including individual psychotherapy for all ages, marriage and family therapy, divorce counseling/mediation, trauma recovery, grief recovery, abuse recovery, group therapy, assessment, career guidance, and pre-marriage counseling.

In addition to being an ordained minister, with an MA in Religion, Pastor Brennen earned an MA in Counseling from Andrews University in 1994 and is reading for a PhD in psychology. He did his internship in individual and marriage and family therapy at Safe Shelter, Inc., Benton Harbor from 1993 to 1994. Between 1993 and 1996 he worked as the director of SS CRAFT (Safe Shelter's Campaign to Reduce Adult Violence in Families), a treatment program for abusive individuals. He also counseled hundreds of individual and couples. He is a nationally certified psychologist, USA. He is a member of the Bahamas Psychological Association, American Counseling Association, American Association of Christian Counselors, North American Association of Masters in Psychology, American Association in Marriage and Family Therapy; and Association for Spiritual, Ethical, and Religious Values in Counseling. REMEMBERING HORNER ANDERSON

Saturday, September 23, around 7:25 p.m. signaled the demise of another of God's long-standing warriors of faith. Known for his serious and dedicated approach to Lay Ministry, Elder Horner Anderson held many church offices at the local Bluff SDA Church, situated in North Eleuthera. Serving his church and God for nearly 50 years, Elder Anderson witnessed the introduction of pastor after pastor and the visits of all Bahamian presidents, yet his voice stood distinct heralding the gospel call in Bluff, Eleuthera.

I recall in recent visits, the last during this year, that Brother Horner, though affected by loss of hearing and impaired vision, remained firm in his faith with his assurance in Christ undaunted. These visits with the Conference president, Elder Keith D. Albury, Pastor H. A. Roach and others were quite inspirational.

At his side on those occasion were his faithful wife, Sis. Laura Anderson, and their daughter, Joan. Sister Laura, who has served in numerous capacities-- for example, Sabbath School Teacher, Sabbath School Superintendent, Treasurer and Organist-- together with her husband and the few dedicated members has been a great source of strength and a towering witness in her community.

Our conference, under the leadership of Pastor Keith D. Albury, offers heartfelt sympathy to Sister Anderson, Joan and other relatives, including Sister Olivia Johnson, sister of the deceased, and Sis. Miriam Knowles, adopted daughter and niece. Like other saints, Elder Anderson awaits that glorious morn. Editor
