Ceremony promptly at 5 p.m. at the H. D. Colburn Gymnatorium. Although longer than usual, the service was impressive and well-organized. Almost three hundred students were honoured for outstanding performance in various areas (academics, perfect attendance, good conduct, school service and honesty).
Among the thirty-one students who made the principal's list (students who got no less than B in all subjects), Brehon Davis, an eight-grader, achieved the highest GPA in the entire school.
The featured speaker for the occasion was Mr. Gregory Bethel, President of Fidelity Merchant Bank and Trust Limited. Speaking on the theme "Goals - The Bridges That Span Our Dreams," Mr. Bethel challenged the students to be alert and take advantage of the opportunities they have to achieve their goals.
In a practical but interesting way, the speaker used quotations from the wise man, Solomon, to get his message to his listeners. The "Majestic Voices," the singing group of Bahamas Academy students who placed first in the recent national music competition, gave a special selection before Mr. Bethel's address.
Pastor K. D. Albury, chairman of the Bahamas Academy School Board, gave welcoming remarks, and the principal, Mrs. C. Rolle commended parents and students for making the event possible. -J. Carey
A special invitation is extended to the SDA community to be a part of this special service. Officers from West Indies Union will be in attendance.

A WINDOW OF OPPORTUNITY
"GC 2000 Offering"
This window is the "heart" of the need for more than 3.4 billion people. This figure represents 60% of the world's population. They live in what is called the 10/40 window that is, the latitudinal points on the world map
Wow, what a window of opportunity! An opportunity to help finance the gospel to more than half of the world's population. An opportunity to help fulfill the promise of Matthew 24: 14: "And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come." The goal is to establish 1,040 new congregations in the 10/40 window. Why? Because of the gospel commission of Matthew 28:19 & 20, and because of our existence as a church or movement with the mandate of Revelation 14: 6.
Consider that only about 1% of the people in this "window of need" believe in Jesus. Thus eternal life could escape them (see John 17:3) without your help. Further, fewer than .001% are Seventh-day Adventists. Thus the joy and blessings of being a part of God's remnant church (see Rev. 12: 17) escape them without your help. Yet, there is a window of hope and that is found in this window of opportunity. Our world church is reaching out to these people. You can participate with a GENEROUS OFFERING placed in the special "GC 2000 Offering" envelopes that will be available to you today, May 27, and June 3, 2000.
Our goal here in the Bahamas Conference is to raise a minimum of $9,000.00. Let us, by the grace of God, exceed that amount by giving generously on one of the next two Sabbaths. Of course, this is over and above our regular tithe and offering. Let's sacrifice for this most worthy cause. Your gift to this Window of Need makes it instead a Window of Hope. Wow, what a "Window of Opportunity" God has given to us. I plan on using it. How about you?
