Led by District Pastor Jeremiah Duncombe, a team of Conference officials, Dr. L. A. Johnson, Dr. J. Carey, former pastors L. C. Rolle and N. E. Scavella, Union secretary, as well as members from our sister churches in New Providence came to fellowship with us at our grand edifice.
The Vesper service was conducted by Pastor Duncombe under the theme "The Power of the Blood." He charged the members to rededicate their lives, press on and hope for the certainty of His coming.
The special guest for this occasion was Pastor Noel S. Fraser from the West Indies Union. His charismatic jubilance opened the eyes of the waiting saints and lifted us to a higher plain. During the Sabbath school, the stage was set for an update of the Adventist mission field in the West Indies Union - one of the hardest areas. He termed Cayman and Turks and Caicos islands as "the Rock of Gibraltar" which was now melted as butter. Hats off to our dynamic pastors in these fields.
The Divine Hour was graced with the melodious voices of the Celebration Combined Choir, directed by Sister Althea Tinker from the Centreville Church and led by veteran Pastor Silas N. McKinney, who reassured the members that they will receive power from on high. Following the service was a sumptuous, mouth-watering gourmet meal, which indeed revived and refreshed the people of God.
On Sunday afternoon the church was full to capacity with members and well-wishers for the Grand Dedicatory Service. Here Pastor Noel S. Fraser gave the final charge, "The Mission of the Church." This sermon was quite timely and thought provoking, leaving the hearers in awe and hungering for more. Our Conference President, Pastor Keith D. Albury, performed the Act of Dedicatio of our fine edifice.
After a short intermission with light refreshments, the week-end's activities climaxed on a spiritual
high, with a Grand Gospel Concert. The illustrious choir from Nassau and the local church choir
put on a superb performance that was highly complimented by Pastor T. Basil Sturrup, our
seasoned and hilarious Master of Ceremonies for the evening. The crowd was certainly charmed
by his tasteful jokes, as he left it panting for more, until the next time. -Yvonne Perriel
HIGHLIGHTS OF BAHAMAS CONFERENCE WEEKEND AT NCU
Under the theme "Twenty-First Century Faith," the Bahamas Conference Weekend at Northern Caribbean University got off to a good start on Friday, April 28, 2000. At the setting of the sun, Pastor Paul Scavella, Field Secretary for the Northern Region of the Bahamas Conference, gave a dynamic and inspirational presentation that provoked the members in the audience to re-examine their faith relationship with Christ.
Following the vespers service, the ministerial students and other interested persons gathered in the Student Center for a ministerial seminar. Pastor K. D. Albury, our Conference President, challenged the group with a provocative discourse on the impact of change on the church in the 21st Century. He pointed out that the church will have to change its approach in dealing with certain issues in order to maintain its relevance in this Millennium. One ministerial student remarked that the thoughts shared were like a "breath of fresh air." A very stimulating question and answer session followed Pastor Albury's discourse.
On Sabbath morning, we started the day with an interesting Sabbath School programme. The students put on a skit depicting outstanding Bible characters who exhibited great faith. The implication was that the same kind of steadfast faith is needed by 21st Century Christians. For the Mission Story, Dr. John Carey and pastors Adderley, Clarke, Scavella and Sturrup highlighted the evangelistic and educational work in the Bahamas Conference. With Dr. Martin Hanna as moderator, a panel including Pastors Wilfred Adderley and Danny Clarke led the discussion on the Sabbath School Lesson.
During the Divine Service, the worshipers were touched by the personal testimony of Pastor Basil Sturrup. He shared his experience of a miraculous recovery from serious injury suffered in a car accident some years ago. Based on the story of Joseph, the sermon was given by Dr. Leonard Johnson, Executive Secretary or Bahamas Conference. In a clear and dynamic way, Pastor Johnson showed how, like Joseph, the 21st Century Christian must maintain an unwavering faith in God in order to be successful.
In addition to the BBC Choir and other college students, Sisters Patrice Clarke and Lavern Sturrup provided the special music for the weekend.
The weekend climaxed with a banquet for the students at the Mandeville Hotel. Everyone felt that the Conference delegation along with the McMillans did their best to make the weekend an enriching experience for the students. We look forward to bigger and better things next year.

10th ANNUAL HOME-COMING REUNION AT CAT ISLAND
The afterglow and excitement of the Easter weekend visit (April 21 -23) to the Cat Island district are still very much alive in the hearts of those of us who had the opportunity of sharing the special activities that were planned for the tenth annual homecoming reunion. The theme "Nearing Home" was indeed appropriate as the congregation gathered to praise the Lord in singing and the spoken word during the Friday evening Vesper service held in Devil's Point and the Sabbath services held in the spacious Sea View Church in Wilson Bay.
Indeed the sweet fellowship began approximately an hour before sunset on Friday as the large bus took on the first group of members leaving the Orange Creek Inn to travel the sixty miles of winding road south to the Devil's Point Church.
As many family members boarded the bus spontaneous singing of Adventist hymns pervaded the atmosphere until the large contingent of over forty members arrived at the neatly renovated church in Devil's Point.
Highlights of the Vesper service included the inspiring song service conducted by Sister Vashti Brown, special presentation of a plaque to Elder Burke Clarke for his long an outstanding service to the local church at Devil's Point and the inspirational message on "Peace" from Pastor Leonard Johnson.
The Sabbath services at the Sea View Church were indeed a special blessing. During the Sabbath School, Pastor R. I. Hanna led out in the lesson review, and Sister Margaret Cleare presented a lively progress report on the mile stone the church has achieved in the last ten years.
During the Divine Worship service, Pastor Leonard Johnson was once again the featured speaker. He challenged his hearers to remain faithful until Jesus returns. Elder Henry Moncur presented a plaque to Brother Strachan on behalf of the Cat Island Seventh-day Adventist Advancement Society. After a healthy, hearty fellowship luncheon, a special workshop was held for Sabbath-School Teachers of the Children's Division. This activity was facilitated by Sisters Rowena Smith and Mahabee, Directors of the Bahamas Conference and the West Indies Union, respectively.
The weekend of April 21-23 was indeed a "Nearing Home" experience. -Cephas Ward
