Youth Crusade Off To
Explosive Start
The
year is 2000. Men and women are more concerned with personal achievement and
social order than salvation and brotherly love. Crime is on the increase.
Pleasure is the chief motivation of the masses. The message is clear. The words of the Apostle Paul written to
Timothy in II Timothy 3 reverberate with the unambiguous indication that times
will not get any better. Not only true
of The Bahamas, but as we look at the entire world, it seems as if brotherly
love has gone along the path of extinction.
The recent decades seem to indicate that the planet is attempting to
tear itself apart with natural disasters.
Has God lost control?
The answer was given loud and clear this past week. God is still firmly in control and He still
intervenes in the affairs of men and women today. Camp Meeting 2000 ‑ On Line With Christ rocketed off to an
explosive start. The speaker,
Evangelist T. Basil Sturrup, fresh off an outstanding evangelistic effort,
allowed the Holy Spirit to use him in a way hardly seen in recent times. Using good, old-fashioned, Bible‑based
preaching with no frills, Evangelist Sturrup poured out fire and brimstone,
echoing God's condemnation of sin, but contrasting it with His unconditional
love for the sinner. The message was
that God is love and He wants you to be with Him. This message was echoed by the nationally acclaimed dynamic
Seventh-day Adventist Youth Chorale under the direction of the flamboyant Tony
Russell, along with our anointed musicians from our many churches. You cannot afford to miss one evening of
these meetings.
What began on Sunday past was not so much a crusade as a
revolution. Camp Meeting 2000 ‑
On Line With Christ represents a coming together of the entire church, young
and old, new members and seasoned ones, under the youth crusade banner to win
souls for Christ. It is a combination
of traditional crusade style with an outstanding hosting style that embodies
the present‑day awareness of our young people. This revolution has broken down the wall of separation that has
existed between young and old in our evangelistic efforts and united us in a
common effort to win souls for our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. These outstanding meetings will continue for
three more weeks at the tent on Baillou Hill Road nest to National Insurance
Board headquarters.
Why a youth crusade, or any crusade at all, when people are so busy with
their own activities? The mission of
this Adventist movement is the saving of souls for The Almighty, be it in
softball or A. Y. or rap sessions.
Also, it provides youth an opportunity to target their peer group in an
outreach effort, and allows wholesome activity during the summer-time. As such, we should view it as our effort, a
church effort, as young and old work responsibly in the mission of the church. Why a crusade at this time? Evangelism is never static but always
active, especially as it pertains to our youth. It comes with a different flavour. It affords our youth opportunities to plan, organize and lead out
in evangelism. It allows for specific outreach with regard to the peers of
youth. Finally, the summer-time is a
time when many of our youth have much time on their hands and simply desire
wholesome activities and places to attend.
Camp Meeting 2000 ‑ On Line With Christ provides an avenue of all
of these. And this year’s programme is
the most exciting and well‑organized evangelistic campaign ever under the
Youth Crusade banner. Do not miss
another minute of this.
Camp Meeting 2000 ‑ On Line With Christ reflects a combination of
our technological and social awareness and our spiritual mandate. It is a howling reproach for us who attempt
to ignore that our first priorities should not be the indicatives of social
mobility and personal achievement but rather the imperatives of salvation and
brotherly love ‑ being online with Christ. Brethren, let us rise up with a greater readiness as we work in
God's programme. The preaching is
awesome, the music heavenly.
The revolution has begun.
There is a need for more soldiers to fight for Christ and carry His
Gospel to a sin‑sick Bahamas.
When we, as God's people, engage in an effort for the Almighty and are
willing to sacrifice for it, there is no stopping point short of victory. Come out to the joint rally at the Grant's
Town Church this afternoon at 6 o’clock and let us commit ourselves to work in
God's programme. Work in the
effort. Pray for the effort. Stand up and be counted for your Lord and
Saviour.
The Good News is out! Jesus saves. This news has been preached for thousands of years now and, praise God, it is still true.

THEME: T.A.R.G.E.T. 2000
The
seven-member female team representing the Northeast Youth Federation touched
down on the island of Exuma on Friday, June 23rd, for what would be
a hectic weekend of activities. Under
the theme “O God, How Great Thou Art,” Sabbath began with Vesper service at the
Mount Thompson Church which was attended by nearly 50 persons, including
visitors from the community.
The next morning dawned with all roads leading to the Moss Town Church for
Sabbath School which was spirit-filled and inspirational. Once again, numerous members of the
community, including the District Education Officer, Mr. H. Christie, and
Principal Rolle, teachers and students of the L. N. Coakley High School, were
in attendance.
The Divine service was historic as this was the first time that the
baccalaureate service of the 2000 graduating class of the high school was held
at an Adventist church on Exuma. The
beautiful Sabbath day concluded with an Adventist Youth service filled with
drama, dialogue and music. The youth
and older members, including Elder and Sister Clarke and Sister Leona Curtis,
displayed, their acting abilities.
We toured the beautiful island from Williams Town to Rolleville on
Sunday with special tour guides Wayde and Terri Rolle. The hospitality of the Exumians and Pastor
Major was first class and we praise God for all the blessings He showered on
all of us.
The Breath of Life Church family, and especially Sis. Marilyn Bonamy,
congratulates Yamma St. Fleur on her graduation from Success Training College
with an associate degree in Computer Systems Management
