Under the capable and dynamic leadership of Mr. Isaac Collie, President, the first Bahamas Chapter of this noble organization was officially established in January, 1999. Our mission is essentially to
A) Encourage and promote the development of privately owned institutions and enterprises owned and operated by Seventh-day Adventist lay persons throughout this region.
B) Encourage SDA church members in privately owned enterprises of various types to unite their efforts with those of denominationally operated enterprises in the furtherance and extension of the gospel in their communities, and to areas beyond, according to opportunities and available resources.
The organization is also committed to full cooperation and collaboration with the denomination and the accomplishment of the Church's mission. ASI will seek to provide its members with the kind of information, inspiration and Christian fellowship which will enable them to be more effective and efficient in their work/businesses. Membership in ASI is available to any SDA church member in good and regular standing, who operates a business, provides a professional service or operates a supporting ministry, and whose business has been in operation for at least one year. All eligible parties are invited to become members. Call the secretary, Mr. Roderick Sands, at telephone #341-4087 for information. -E. Rahming, Sr. Public Relations Officer
EVANGELISM EXPLOSION 2000
March 5th, 2000, will be a time of evangelistic explosion here in the Bahamas as five Gospel Crusades are conducted simultaneously by Pastors from the Seventh-day Adventist Church. This is the first time the Church is embarking upon an evangelistic programme of this magnitude.
With a goal of 1,000 baptisms in 2000, it is expected that under the leading of the Holy Spirit, these Crusades will yield a total of 500 souls by the first part of April.
With the prayers and support of the members in each region, we look forward to assisting the Police in the fight against crime by directing our young people to Christ, the One who alone can transform the hearts of men and make a difference in their lives and our country.
-Pastor L. C. Rolle, Ministerial Director

WOMEN'S MINISTRY RETREAT
Over the past weekend four hundred and fifty women, some from far-flung lands such as England, were in attendance at the Florida Conference's, annual Women's Ministry Retreat at Camp Kulaqua in High Springs. There was no outward show of intellectual, financial or social backgrounds, but as the programme progressed, tears of joy, understanding, pain and laughter knitted our hearts together in one common bond of love and unity.
At the opening on Friday evening, the principal speaker, Mrs. Janice Johnson-Browne, Clinical Child Psychologist, brought to our attention, that each of us has a water-pot (like the women who came to Jesus at the well) and needed to have it filled. Without a doubt, the Holy Spirit and the angelic host were present; but at the Divine Worship hour on Sabbath morning, each woman sensed, in a special way, that she, like the 'woman at the well' needed that special touch from Jesus, so that the innermost longings of her heart could be met.
The seminars, which included, among others, 'The Power of Prayer;' 'The Strong-willed Child;' 'Hormones and all that Hullabaloo' etc., proved to be informative, practical, and were indeed an eye-opener.
The backdrop for our theme had a feminine touch of colours, flowers, and especially butterflies. Added to this was the fact that the entire surroundings were tastefully decorated with autumn leaves. New friends made, old acquaintances renewed and addresses exchanged, the intent of our theme "transformed by His Hands" became a reality, as victories were won. Waterpots were filled and the Water of Life flowed freely. - Ketura Graham
BA UNITED STUDENT MOVEMENT EXPRESSES APPRECIATION TO TEACHERS
February - the month when everyone's attention is on expressing love and appreciation to those he or she cares about. Well, the students of Bahamas Academy Secondary School demonstrated recently that they know how to express their love for those they care about.
Every year, the United Student Movement of the school (a club of which every student is a member) plan and spearhead special programs to express to their teachers how much they love and appreciate their untiring efforts from day to day. The students realize that no amount of money could ever repay their teachers for the time and effort put into their training. But they wanted to say "thanks" in their unique way.
During the week of February 14 to 18, 2000, the officers and members of the USM tangibly expressed how they felt by presenting a worship thought to their teachers each morning. Some classes presented their homeroom teachers with various gifts each day, then "gave" the teachers the day off on Friday while the seniors took over their classes. The USM officers even "took over" the school's administrative positions on that day: Principal -Mandela Kerr, Vice -principal - Kendal Smith, Treasurer - Falish Smith, Secretary - Keva Robinson, and Accountant -Clydia Miller. Of course, the 'real' administrators were there to "look over their shoulders."
However, the highlight of the week came on Wednesday, February 16, when each teacher (and support staff) was escorted to the front of the gym for a chapel program which will long be remembered. Music, original poems, special tributes written by the students, along with baskets of fruits, flowers, perfume/cologne, and candy were some of the items presented in tribute to the teachers.
During this chapel program, special tributes were also paid to Miss Bridgette Bell, Miss Ellamae Neely, and Ms. Mildred Gordon, all of whom will be leaving us at the end of the school year. We are going to miss them tremendously and we hope they felt appreciated at the end of that assembly.
The teachers of Bahamas Academy Secondary School wish to express their thanks to Mandela Kerr, President; Kendal Smith, Vice-president; and all the other officers and members of the USM for giving them a week they will not easily forget! - Lynn Smith, Vice-principal and PR Officer
