![]() THE LOGOSA Bahamas Conference of Seventh-day Adventists Weekly Publication Volume 5, Number 16, April 15, 2000 |
This campaign, as you will recall, was launched officially on March 5, 2000, with 5 major evangelistic efforts in New Providence and Grand Bahama. Leading out in 4 crusades in New Providence were Evangelists Edward St. Fleur, Theodore Basil Sturrup, E. Danny Clarke and Michael A. Smith, and Evangelist Paul A. Scavella in the solo thrust in Grand Bahama. These were all assisted by both clergy and lay persons.
Thousands of persons from every stratum of life attended these crusades on Bernard Road, Parkgate Road, Blue Hill Road, and Maze and Melvern Roads, and in Hawksbill, Grand Bahama, which lasted 5 weeks. Together, they resulted in nearly 400 souls baptized, signifying their acceptance of Christ. Now that the crusades have ended or are about to climax, these persons will be nurtured spiritually through seminars, Bible classes and visitation. Only God knows the far-reaching, positive effect these efforts will have upon our society. It is the thinking of Administration and our Conference in general that the basic problem of our land is one of a lack of a spiritual nature. Unless approached from that perspective, situations will be patched as opposed to being remedied. Thus our Church is committed in its ongoing ministry of reaching out to youth and families through practical ministries.
As a reminder, we appeal to you to assist our newly-baptized brethren with settling into the church. While certain habits or lacks might be noticed visibly, avoid the temptation to criticize. Offer encouragement instead of criticism or the like. Administration

BA SECONDARY SCIENCE EXHIBITION 2000 A SUCCESS!
Wednesday, March 29th, marked the opening of Bahamas Academy's 2nd annual science fair and competition. Under the theme "Discovering the Treasures of Life," the occasion was officially launched with opening remarks by Dr. J. Carey, who also performed the ribbon-cutting ceremony. Standing by to lend their support were parents and friends of those who participated and a host of curious students.
Being one of the only schools in the country to have such an added dimension to its science curriculum, the Academy was proud to invite a distinguished cadre of judges for the event. Judging this years's competition were Mr. Cephas Ward, Director of the Research Unit at the College of the Bahamas, Dr. Llewelyn Curling, Chairperson of the Division of Science and Technology at COB, and Dr. John Carey, Education Director of our Conference.
After each contestant was interviewed and each project judged, the scores were tallied. Erica Sweeting emerged as the winner of the competition with "Colour Me White," a project in genetics based on the cross-pollination of peach and white roses. Etosha Rahming's project, "Green bananas." based on measuring the effects of temperature on the ripening rate of bananas, earned her the first runner-up position. New was Robert Roper with "Flovoured Flower," a project based on observing the effect of various coloured dyes on the growth and colour of sunflowers. And our third place finisher was young Alexis Kemp whose project, "Water Currents." investigated the electrical conductivity of various solutions.
The Science Department would like to thank the administration, executive members and sponsors of the Science Club, students of 11RS and all of our brilliant participants for making Science Exhibition 2000 a success. Special thanks and recognition to our prize sponsors Sir Lynden Pindling, Mr. Audley Mitchell, and Mr. C. Melvin Lewis who donated the grand prize of laptop computer, desk-top pc, palm-held computer, and electronic organizer respectively. We are eternally grateful for your sacrifice and look forward to your continued support next year.
