Turks and Caicos Students Now A Part of BBC
Alden Albury BBCT President

[February 20, 2007]  The Bahamas Bermudian Caymanian Club (BBC), a student organization on the campus of Northern Caribbean University, Mandeville, Jamaica, has officially added to its membership students from the Turks and Caicos Islands. Before, students from the Turks and Caicos were only considered honorary members (allowed to attend meetings, participate in activities, but not in the electoral process), considering the fact that they didn't represent a body of there own.

However after a request was made to Student Development  for the Club to facilitate these students, and then the Vice President of Student Development, Dr. Gloria Roberts petitioned to the university's administrative council the, approval was granted. The BBC Club welcomes them with open arms, and looks forward to enhancing the relationship that already exists. A constitutional review and amendment committee for the BBC Club is to be formed to make the necessary changes to the name, and where necessary so as to allow full entitlement to these students as the other three nationalities who are in this organization.   The BBC Club is now the BBCT Club.   Alden Albury is the president of the Bahamas Bermudian Caymanian Turks and Caicos Club.

Bahamian Singing Group Resurrected

[February 20, 2007] BASIC- Brothers And Sisters In Christ, a singing group at Northern Caribbean University, comprising of about twenty Bahamian students was recently organized.   The groups history dates back to 2001 when a Female Bahamian songbird came to the Northern Caribbean University, and started the group with Wilfred Adderley as her assistant and Miguel Taylor as the pianist. She later took a leave from her studies, and shortly thereafter the group was dismantled. However upon her return to the university, and after consultation, she saw it fit to resurrect the group. Bahamian students eagerly jumped onto the bandwagon, and are enthusiastic towards this singing ministry.

In the past, the group created a name for itself, attracting the support of some faculty members, one person in particular, Dr. Marylyn Anderson, now Dean of the College of Arts and General Studies. She aided the group by ensuring they got performance dates, and coached where necessary. She was the key factor apart from the group's melodious sound, that got the group to perform for Mark Finley (television evangelist) at his crusade series he conducted several years ago in Jamaica. The new group looks forward to keeping up the good name the old group created. This group makes two singing groups of Bahamian Students on the NCU Campus. The other, The Bahamas Chorale was formed last year at the West Indies Union Centennial Celebration.

BBC Club President Resigns

[December 12, 2005] In a surprise awakening on Sunday December 11, 2005,

Alden Albury acting president as of December 12, 2005

President of The Bahamian Bermudian Caymanian Club of Northern Caribbean University, Miguel Taylor, submitted his letter of resignation. This move comes just after four months of him being asked to sit as President for a second academic school year.

In his letter the former president indicated that from his view point as of late, there seemed to be a “strong display of non-cooperation, unreliability, and non-commitment” from the members of the club due to his being the leader. Such attitudes he claims led to failed attempts on projects, as well as meeting commitments, thereby impacting negatively on his credibility and image as a leader. He expressed that he could no longer endure such attitudes.

Some members of the Club said that Mr. Taylor lost his touch with the members, while others believe and claim that the ‘non-support’ was a direct attack on the president. Mr. Taylor was known as a no-nonsense leader, which at times could have been interpreted as very dogmatic or dictatorial. In response to such accusations, Mr. Taylor said: “it’s not a matter of being dogmatic of dictatorial. If something needed to be done, I appointed the relevant officer. If they didn’t do it I raised 'hell'. I can’t do everything. I may try, but there’s only so much I can do. I alone am not BBC Club.”

As a result, the current vice-president, Alden Albury, will assume presidential duties. A by-election is to take place within a two-week period to fill the vacant vice president position. Due to his resignation, Mr. Taylor also forfeits his right to a seat on the student senate. The new president will also assume this position automatically as well.

A Message from the Club President  August 8, 2005

As the summer vacations comes to a close, many of you will start the process, or have started the process of preparing yourselves mentally to re-enter the classrooms to continue the journey of pursuing higher education. Sometimes the journey may seem tedious and insurmountable, but with God all things are possible.

We wish to extend a warm welcome those Bahamian Bermudian, and Cayman Island students who will begin to tackle academics at the collegiate level for the first time, here at NCU. This new venture will serve to brighten you horizon, heighten you intellectual skills, and mold your character (trust me it will) as you learn to see and process life on new level through your various disciplines. College life takes time to adjust to. No matter the circumstances, remember you came with a goal in mind, so keep it in view. I am sure our returning members will be happy to assist you wherever possible.

The upcoming academic school year promises to be and should be a very productive one for the Bahamian Bermudian Caymanian Club. Please note that shortly after the semester would’ve begun, our nomination and electoral process for the next regime will take place. The new regime will officially take over after the official presentation of elected officers to the House. In addition to this ceremony, a few projects that were embarked on by the current regime will be revealed and highlighted.

I encourage each of you to continue to support this organization. It is a reflection of each of us, as representatives of our respective countries. Let us continue to wave our banners high and make it a success.

On behalf of the Executive Members,

Miguel D. Taylor
President
