The Shot Heard 'Round the World (Or how it really happened in merry old England) By - Rodney Allen Martin (1972)

Presented to Mark West at the 1972 U.S. National Champioinships Oxford Ohio
Robin Hood picked up his bow, although his heart was quaking And fought to stop his pounding pulse and stop his knees from shaking.
For things were tough at Nottingham it seemed that he was bested Another archer shot the shaft that in "dead center" rested.
Yet Robin had one arrow more and he must shoot it fairly Though there was little chance to beat another placed so squarely.
Reluctantly he set his feet and drew the great bow slowly. A "hush" engulfed the people there, the "high born" and the lowly.
He froze.... he could not loose the shaft. He froze..... and stood there aiming He froze.... and seconds passed like years. He froze.... and stood there straining.
Then, as his vision blurred to naught, and his great pride was dieing A tiny wasp, unseen, unheard, across the field came flying.
It stung him on the mighty hand that clutched the string so tightly. His fingers jumped, the arrow flew, into the air so lightly.
It flew a swift and gleaming arc as rays of sunlight lit it. It peaked and plunged down toward that shaft.... that centered shaft and split it.
The shoot was done, a legend grew, "Good Robin Hood" had won it. And there were few who ever knew exactly how he'd done it.
The curtain falls. The story ends. The moral now must enter. It's when you freeze, be sure to freeze, exactly in the center.
