Ready!! Aim!! Fire!!
by Anna Duong

At "Camp Micronesia" you could definately hear the words, "Ready, Aim, Fire".  Arrows would zoom past flying high and low hitting the targets that are 15-20 feet away.

Archery, one of the classes offered at Camp Micronesia is definately one of the kids favorite classes.  Most of the children have never done archery before and, to them, archery was a thrilling adventure.

The tropical island environment brought with it different surroundings and views.  Besides being closely bordered by ocean, beaches and palm trees (In Chuuk, for example) the archery class was also surrounded by kids climbing tall coconut tress when they werent shooting arrows.

Since most kids came with few or no experience in archery, everyone was treated as an equal in the class.  In Pohnpei there was a little boy who had Fetal Alcholic Syndrome.  However this did not stop him from participating and enjoying the archery class.  He could be seen not only receiving help from his peers, but also giving pointers to his friends.

Archery has taught the children to set goals, aim accurately, trust and let go.
