Filmmaker Angela Shelton went on a journey around the United States meeting other Angela Sheltons in an effort to survey women in America.  What she wasn’t prepared for was learning that like herself, 24 out of 40 had been raped, beaten or molested.  The filmmaker’s search ends up being much more than a survey of women: it is a journey of self-discovery when she decides to confront her past and then her abusive father on Father’s Day.  The Angela Sheltons complete her journey home by teaching her about the power of the human spirit in all of us, no matter what your name is.

SINS OF THE FATHERS: Documentary video, 1993, 50 min., VHS, A&E Home Video, 19 Gregory Drive, So. Burlington, VT 05403.   CAT NO. AAE-20023.  1-800-423-1212 credit card orders.  This video uncovers alleged widespread sexual abuse of children committed by some of America's priests, and examines the Catholic Church's denial and avoidance in dealing with this disturbing problem.  The Church has been accused of consistently recycling pedophilic priests from parish to parish without informing the community involved.  With more and more victims coming forward, insurance companies are refusing to indemnify this American institution any longer.  The Catholic Church in the United States stands to lose a great deal more than the $500 million it has already paid in court awards and settlements to abused children and their families.
