The Keepers

They knew they had to keep the law.
   They knew from experience
      How disaster struck because
         They neglected keeping themselves pure.

The only way was to install many rules
   To make sure no one sinned or broke
      This difficult LAW that God put upon them.
         They must not be hurt again like in the past.

And so they rejected anyone who does not abide
   By this harsh law as they interpreted it.
      They took strident action to keep
         From falling under God's wrath again.

This is why, when a Man, a lowly, Man from Galilee came,
   Practicing heresy and teaching error, (as they saw it)
      They had no choice but to protect themselves
         By putting an end to His life.
                    GOD CERTAINLY UNDERSTANDS!

We know we are now living in the last days,
   When every whim and doctrine must be carefully examined.
      We dare not err as others have
         And thus drive away God's Spirit.

We must carefully guard the law,
   So we can make sure that those who speak
      Against what we have developed, are punished in order
         To protect us from breaking this hard-to-keep law,

These protesters are dealt with in any way we can find
   To put them on the run.
      We dare not listen; they might contaminate us,
         They might pollute us with their heresy.
                    GOD CERTAINLY UNDERSTANDS!

We are few in number but strong in rejoicing
   For what God has done for and in us.
      We simply have to share this good news with all
         Who will lend an ear, and open the Book.

We have found the blessings and promises
 
   He so graciously shares in the framework
      Of the marvelous ten steps
         He gave to Moses so long ago.

Learning from the Master how these wonderful promises
   Can make our relationship with Him
      So meaningful and full of changes within us
         As the Spirit fills our life.

We are no longer afraid, but full of Hope,
   No longer weak, but made strong,
      Sinners made whole
         By the righteousness and grace of God!

Excitedly we tell others and open the Word with many,
   Telling them the story we have learned,
      From studying with the Holy Spirit's guidance.
         We cannot keep this within!
                    GOD CERTAINLY UNDERSTANDS!

What about you, my friend?
   Do you know this risen Jesus?
      Have you experienced the joy of a renewed spirit?
         Have you something to share?

There is a longing placed in each human heart,
   A longing so strong,
      That if we do not pervert it
         Will draw us to our Creator.

Will you keep this flame of truth,
   That God shares with each child of His,
      And let it burn brightly in your heart?
         Will you allow the Holy Spirit to spread
             The flame through you to others?

Soon He is coming with the hosts of heaven
   To claim His children here on planet Earth,
      To take us into the land He has made perfect.
         Will you keep this hope alive in your heart?

Through the pain we suffer here,
   The indignities and sorrows of life and death,
      Forsaken by those we looked up to,
         Disappointed many times by discrimination,
            We hang onto His hand.
                    GOD WILL CERTAINLY KEEP YOU IN HIS HAND!
                    GOD CERTAINLY UNDERSTANDS!
