The Flood
By Peggy Harris August 19, 1993 "Verses of Hope"

We watched it day after endless day,
Water falling from the sky in continuous torrents,
Washing away traces of human labor,
Destroying years of hard work,
Wiping out generations of homes,
Leaving disaster in its wake,
Relentless in retaking the land wrested
From the river's paths.

While waiting for the sun to dry the earth,
Many help, doing what they can
In many ways to rescue and
                Save both life and property.

Throughout this sphere set in the universe,
The flood of sin grows relentlessly,
Flooding every corner of the earth,
Carrying disaster and mercilessly
Bringing the annihilation of many people.

We stand and do what we can to stop the progress
Of this seemingly endless flood of
Hate, hurt, anger, ugliness and deprivation.

It is more than any human being can handle,
This preying on innocents,
This betrayal of trust in fellow humans.

The only help that can stop this tide of destruction
Is the coming of God's SON
That will dry up and stop
                This flood of sin forever.
