The Drought
By Peggy Harris August 18, 1993 "Verses of Hope"
There has been a drought in the land.
Crops have dried up,
The earth stands parched in the sun.
Farmers wonder where and when they will have relief.
Their livelihood is at stake.
It reminds me of the drought in the land
Of so many years ago.
I read about it in The Book.
The same thing had happened, only worse.
That drought had gone on for years.
People were getting desperate,
So desperate they finally were willing to listen.
Then God called Elijah to
Rebuild the worship place,
And to renew conversation with God
For the people.
The people were now ready to listen,
Now ready to hear,
Finally ready to renew their belief.
Going their own way had not proved profitable
In the long haul.
Today there is a spiritual drought in the land.
Hearts have dried up,
Hopelessness and despair are rampant.
All the while there are many who do not see
The effects nor are they aware of
This famine at hand.
They feel a need of nothing,
Going about their own way,
Living life as usual.
Unseen is the pain,
The heartache of despair.
Their eyes are blind,
Their hearts are made of stone,
Their ears are deaf.
Oh, for the precious drops of Rain,
The life restoring,
Renewing, living Latter Rain.
Pray for the downpour of the Rain.
Surrender the drought of sin
For the refreshing Rain.
