Teeth
by Peggy Harris W.A.S.H. Board Chair

“…He has covered me with the robe of righteousness…” Isaiah 61:10 New King James Version.

If there is anything I hate, it’s going to the dentist. Now that’s no reflection on the dentists I’ve had over the years. They’ve always been very nice people. Maybe it’s the dentist chair that recoils me.

As soon as I sit down in this chair my body stiffens and I grab onto the arms and hang on for dear life. I’ve heard of “painless” dentists but never seem to get one of those. Mine plays music, which is supposed to relax the patient, but I’m still gripping the arms.

Now the grip varies. When the drilling starts I grip the arms harder. The sound of the motorized dental equipment really sets off my panic alarms. By the time the dental appointment is over whether it’s a routine check up or really digging in to some problem, I’m sure I’ve reduced the size of the chair arms. Maybe this is good exercise for arm muscles. If so twice a year I get a work out.

I brush my teeth three to four times a day using whitening toothpaste. By now my teeth should be whiter than snow! But not so! They still seem to have a brownish tinge. My dentist says its old age!

I can remember when they introduced fluoride to our water systems. One of the results we were told was that it would make our teeth brown. Well, they were right! So now we have all these products to whiten and brighten our teeth.

Well, I will keep brushing my teeth, going to the dentist. I’ve lived through it this many years; I guess a few more won’t harm me! And then, besides, where can I get a work out of arm muscles on the side? At least I still have teeth to brush!

We also have the stains of sin in our life that discolors our souls. Soon we will stand before the King of the Universe and see Him in person. By the time we get there we will have been clothed in the white raiment of Christ’s Righteousness. All the stains of sin are gone with this celestial raiment.

Will you accept the Master’s gift of this glorious righteousness made especially for you? Best to be properly dressed for the occasion I say.
