UNKLAB WELCOMES NEW FACULTY

Lydia Laoh, Sarjana Komputer (S. Kom.) recently accepted the call to join Unklab. Lydia completed her high school at S.L.A. Tompaso II, and pur-sued her education at Uni-versitas Bina Nusantara, Jakarta where she earned her Sarjana Komputer major in Teknik Informatika last se-mester. She was not able to participate in her graduation exersices because it fell on Sabbath.  Miss Laoh is al-ready at Unklab, but will start teaching in the school of M.I.P.A. at the beginning of the second semester, 2002.

DOSEN BARU --BERGABUNG DENGAN UNKLAB

Miss Lydia Laoh, Sarjana Komputer (S. Kom.) baru saja menerima panggilan untuk bergabung dengan Unklab sebagai tenaga pengajar di Fakultas M.I.P.A. Ia tamat dari S.L.A. Tompaso II, dan melan-jutkan pendidikannya di Uni-versitas Bina Nusantara, Jakarta dimana dia memper-oleh gelar Sarjana Komputer  (S.Kom) major Teknik Informatika semester yang baru lalu. Ia sudah berada dikampus Unklab, tapi nanti akan mulai mengajar pada permulaan semester

SIU ( Sistem Informasi Unklab )

 Universitas Klabat pada saat ini sedang membangun suatu sistem informasi yang diberi nama SIU.  SIU ini akan mengambil alih sistem manual yang selama ini dipakai, seperti sistem regristrasi, sistem akademik, sistem yang ada di perpustakaan dan sistem keuangan.  SIU akan diimplementasikan pada semester II tahun 2002/2003. Beberapa fasilitas yang diberikan di SIU antara lain, pendaftaran online via internet dan intranet, informasi student balance, cek nilai, pengambilan sks, dsb., yang semua itu bisa dilakukan di belahan dunia manapun.

Sekarang ini SIU sementara dikerjakan dan masih dalam tahap program coding, rencana bulan Nopember sudah  bisa di apply, bulan Desember uji coba dan training, dan pendaftaran semester II bulan Januari 2003 diharapkan SIU sudah bisa dioperasikan. Mulai saat itu Unklab sudah masuk ke sejarah baru di dalam pemanfaatan teknologi informasi.

RECTOR ATTENDED MEETING WITH

DIRJEN OF HIGHER EDUCATION

S.J. Laoh, Ph.D., Unklab Rector, attended the meeting conducted by Depdiknas in Jakarta from Oct.31 – Nov. 1, 2002. The meeting was focused on the higher education autonomy which covers operation administration of education including Curriculum and Finance.   Even though the meeting on curriculum was conducted by Dikti at Unima, Tondano (read curriculum 2000 seminar) but the Department of Nasional Education in Jakarta again invited higher education administrators to socialize the matter.  Another important factor which was also discussed during the meeting  was Finance. The higher education institution is to manage its own financial affair. This creates no serious problem for  Unklab because Unklab has been autonomy since its beginning, but It will affect the public higher education institutions. One of the strategies that they will apply to cope with the challenge is to cooperate with well-known business companies in research where the findings may help develop the company, and in return the higher education institution may be benefited from it. Rector said that this should also be the strategy of Unklab – through research.

REKTOR  MENGHADIRI RAPAT  DENGAN DIRJEN PERGURUAN TINGGI

 Rektor Unklab, S.J. Laoh, Ph.D.,  menghadiri rapat yang diadakan oleh Depdiknas di Jakarta pada tanggal 31 Okt. – 1 Nop., 2002. Rapat yang dipimpin Dirjen Per- guruan Tinggi. itu berpusat pada otonomisasi Perguruan Tinggi di Indonesia. Hal-hal yang termasuk dalam pembahasan adalah Administrasi Pengelolaan Per-guruan Tinggi mencakup antara lain, Kurikulum. Walaupun seminar Kurriculum 2000 sudah diadakan oleh Dikti di Unima, Tondano, (detailnya dapat dibaca pada Seminar Curriculum 2000) tetapi Diknas mengundang lagi Pimpinan-pimpinan Perguruan Tinggi untuk mensosialisasikan hal tersebut. Faktor penting lainnya yang dibahas dalam pertemuan yang dihadiri Rektor itu adalah soal Keuangan. - yaitu setiap Perguruan Tinggi meng-atur keuangannya sendiri. Hal ini tidak menjadi masalah serius bagi Unklab kususnya, karena sejak berdiri, Unklab sudah mandiri. Bagi Perguruan Tinggi Negeri, salah satu strategi yang akan dijalankan adalah bekerja sama dengan perusahaan-perusahaan besar melalui re- search untuk perkembangan perusahaan, dan pada gilirannya Perguruan Tinggi akan peroleh income. Unklab juga harus menjalankan strategi research ini lanjut rector.

MINISTERIAL STUDENTS CONDUCTED EVANGELISTIC MEETING

Jesus is the Source of Happiness” was the theme of the evangelistic meeting conduct-ed by Ministerial students of Universitas Klabat. Five churches – Yordan, Kanaan, Tumaluntung, Lembean, and Bukit Zaitun -- went hand in hand together with Yayasan Cornelius in this evangelistic meeting which was conducted at Bukit Zaitun church on Sep.  18 – 28, 2002. The main speakers in the meetings were the senior ministerial students. Presented various seminars during the meetings  were the following teachers: Mr. Ronny Walean, Pastors Hans Kalalo, Jance Tumalun, Stephen Rantung, and Mrs. Anna Kalangi. Approximately 350 people attended every meeting. This effort was blessed by the Lord with 25 souls through baptism at the end of the meeting.

KKR FAKULTAS FILSAFAT

“Yesus Sumber Kebahagiaan” adalah tema KKR yang diada-kan oleh mahasiswa-mahasiswa Fakultas Filsafat Unklab bertempat di Jemaat Bukit Zaitun pada tanggal 18 – 28 September, 2002. KKR ini adalah kerjasama lima jemaat yaitu, jemaat Yordan, Kanaan, Tumaluntung, Bukit Zaitun, dan Lembean, serta Yayasan Cornelius. Yang menjadi pembicara inti pada KKR tersebut adalah mahasiswa-mahasiswa tingkat akir Fakultas Filsafat. Selain pekabaran Firman Allah, maka berbagai seminar di-bawakan antara lain oleh Bpk. Ronny Walean, Pendeta-pendeta Hans Kalalo, J. Tumalun, S. Rantung, dan Ibu A. Kalangi yang semuanya adalah dosen-dosen Unklab. Hadir pada setiap kumpulan sekitar 350 orang. Ceramah berakir dengan baptisan suci atas 25 orang yang diadakan di Paal II.

KOPERASI KEMITRAAN UNKLAB INDOFOOD

 Koperasi Unklab and P.T. Indofood have signed the Memo-randum of alliance on October 3, 2002, and established the Koperasi Kemitraan Unklab Indofood (the new name re-placing the old name “Unklab Store.” The agreement is that Koperasi Kemitraan Unklab Indofood selling only the products of P.T. Indofood except goods that are not produced by P.T. Indofood. Indofood sells those products to Unklab at the distributor price, and especially noodles are sold at the factory price (distributor price is cheaper than market price, and factory price is cheaper than distributor price.) Indofood itself checks the supplies and deliver the goods to Koperasi Kemitraan Unklab Indofood from time to time to keep the koperasi in good supplies. Special program was held in front of the koperasi to celebrate the agreement. Mrs. Eva Riyanto Hutapea, the Director in Chief of P.T. Indofood in her remarks said that P.T. Indofood selects Universitas Klabat as their alliance because of some plus factors. She said that Unklab with the population of 1900 people is the potential alliance, therefore, needs to be served.  “We are happy”, Hutapea further said, “that today we are able to signed the memorandum of alliance between P.T. Indofood and Koperasi Unklab. We hope that this alliance can be the stepping stone to build co-operation in other fields.” P.T. Indofood spent Rp.100 million to renovate the former Unklab store building for this purpose, and has donated Rp.50 million for scholarship fund. Accord-ing to Mr. S. Manueke, Unklab Treasurer who is the supervisor of Koperasi Kemitraan Unklab Indofood, that the turnover of this koperasi is approximately   Rp. 60 – 75 million per month.

KOPERASI KEMITRAAN UNKLAB INDOFOOD

Koperasi Unklab dan P.T. Indofood telah menanda-tangani persetujuan beraliansi pada tanggal 3 Oktober, 2002, dan membentuk Koperasi Ke-mitraan Unklab Indofood (nama baru menggantikan nama “Unklab Store.) Per-setujuan itu adalah bahwa Koperasi Kemitraan Unklab Indofood menjual hanya barang-barang yang diproduk oleh P.T. Indofood kecuali barang-barang yang tidak di-produk oleh P.T Indfood.  P.T. Indofood menjual barang ke-pada Unklab dengan harga distributor, teristimewa mie dengan harga pabrik (harga distributor lebih murah dari harga pasar dan harga pabrik lebih murah dari harga distributor.) Indofood sendiri yang mengecek persediaan barang-barang di Koperasi Kemitraan Unklab Indofood dan mensuplai barang-barang dari waktu kewaktu agar barang-barang dagangan di-koperasi ini selalu cukup. Satu acara kusus diadakan didepan Koperasi Kemitraan Unklab Indofood untuk merayakan persetujuan tersebut. Mrs. Eva Riyanto Hutapea, Dirut P.T. Indofood, dalam kata sambutannya mengatakan bahwa P.T. Indofood memilih Unklab melalui koperasinya karena ada kelebihan-ke-lebihan. Menurut dia bahwa Unklab yang berpenduduk 1 900 orang adalah satu ke-mitraan yang berpotensi, itu sebabnya, perlu dilayani. “Ka-mi merasa bahagia,” lanjut Hutapea, “karena hari ini kita bisa menandatangi nota ke-sepahaman kerja sama ke-mitraan antara Indofood dan Koperasi Universitas Klabat. Harapan kami, kemitraan ini dapat menjadi pembuka jalan untuk menjalin kerjasama di-bidang lain.” P.T. Indofood sendiri sudah mengeluarkan Rp. 100 juta untuk me-renovasi gedung Unklab Store untuk maksud ini, serta sudah menyumbang Rp. 50 juta ke-pada Unklab untuk dana bea-siswa. Menurut Mr. S. Manueke, Bendahara Unklab yang menjadi pengawas Koperasi Kemitraan Unklab Indofood, bahwa perputaran uang dikoperasi ini sekarang sudah mencapai Rp. 60 – 70 juta per bulan.

MINISTERIAL STUDENTS & TEACHERS RETREAT

Make me clean” was the theme of the retreat of students and teachers of the School of Philosophy which was conducted at the Eben Haezar retreat resort, Lorong Air Hi-dup, Tateli, from Oct.31 – Nov. 1, 2002. Far from the busyness of the city where the wonder of His love could be witnessed through the singing of the birds, where the power of the Almighty could be sensed through the beating of the heart, the retreat was opened by Pastor V. Lumowa, D.P.Th., the Dean of the School of Philosophy  at 1.30 p.m. The three-day retreat was tightly scheduled with many activities, and heavily loaded with seminars on re-vivals and reformation pre-sented by different individual. “Revival and Reformation in the time of the Patriarch” by Dr. V. Lumowa; “Revival and Reformation during the time of Kings” by Pastor S. Rantung, Ph.D., the retreat coordinator;  Revival and Reformation after the Exiles by Pastor Jimmy Jacobs; “Revival and Reform-ation in the time of Apostles”  by Dr. Tommy Mambu; and “Revival and Reformation in the last days” by Pastor V. Lumowa. According to Denny Mamuli, ministerial S.A. Pre-sident and the source of this information, the Devine worship was conducted at 4 a.m. Pastor Allen Pasuhuk was the speaker in which he emphasized that revival and reformation cannot be separated; they should go hand in hand. Pastor Ch. Manoppo, the East Indonesia Union Conference Ministerial Secretary, spoke at one of the evening worship followed by discussions. Seminars of other topics were also pre-sented. Pastor Hans Kalalo discussed the topic of “Hermeneutics”; Mrs. Ellen Lintuuran spoke on the topic of “The life style of ministerial students in campus;” The other interesting topics  were “The lives of pastors” pre-sented by Pastor V. Lumowa, Dr. & Mrs. John Karwur; and “The lives of Adventist youths;”  led by Drs. Benny and Lelly Mangowal, Pastor & Mrs. A. Pasuhuk beside Mr. F. Tenda. By the grace of God and the cooperation among   ministerial student body, the retreat committee members   as well as the teachers, the retreat ended  successfully.

RETREAT – FAKULTAS FILASAFAT

“Jadikanlah aku tahir” adalah tema retreat Fakultas Filsafat yang diadakan diresort retreat Eben Haezar, Lorang Air Hi-dup, Tateli, pada tanggal 31 Okt. – 1 Nop., 2002. Jauh dari hiruk-pikuknya kota dimana keajaiban kasih Pencipta dapat didengar melalui icauan burung, dimana kuasa Yang Maha Besar dapat dirasakan melalui setiap denyutan jantung, retreat sudah dibuka oleh Pdt. V. Lumowa, D.P.Th., Dekan Fakultas Filsafat pada jam 1.30 siang. Retreat se-lama tiga hari itu sangat ketat jadwalnya, dan sarat dengan seminar mengenai Kebangun-an dan pembaharuan. “Ke-bangunan dan Pembaharuan dimasa Bapa-Bapa” oleh Pdt. V. Lumowa; “Kebangunan dan pebaharuan dimasa Raja-Raja” oleh Pdt. S. Rantung, Ph.D.yang juga coordinator retreat; “Kebangunan dan pembaharuan sesudah masa pembuangan” oleh Pdt. Jimmy Jacobs; “Kebangunan  dan pembaharuan dimasa rasul-rasul” oleh Pdt. Tommy Mambu, Ph.D.; dan “Ke-bangunan dan pembaharuan pada masa akir “ oleh Pdt. V. Lumowa. Menurut Denny Mamuli, Ketua Senat Mahasiswa Fakultas Filsafat yang juga menjadi sumber berita ini, Kotbah Sabat di-adakan pada jam empat subuh. Pdt. Allan Pasuhuk dalam kotbahnya menyatakan bahwa kebangunan dan pem-baharuan tidak bisa dipisah-pisahkan; keduanya harus berjalan bersama-sama. Pdt. Ch. Manoppo, Sekertaris Ke-pendetaan U.K.K.T.I menjadi pembicara pada satu renung-an malam dan diikuti dengan perbincangan-perbincangan. Seminar tentang judul-judul lainnya juga disampaikan. Pdt. Hans kalalo menyampaikan seminar berjudul “Hermeneutics” ; Mrs. Ellen Lintuuran berbicara tentang “Cara hidup mahasiswa Fakultas Filsafat dikampus”. Seminar-seminar yang me-narik lainnya juga dibawakan. “Kehidupan pendeta” oleh Pdt. V. Lumowa, dan Dr.& Mrs. John Karwur, P.R. I  Unklab, dan “Kehidupan orang-orang muda Advent” oleh Dr. Benny dan Dr. Lelly Mangowal, Pdt. & Ibu A. Pasuhuk, dan Sdr. Tenda. Dengan rahmat Allah dan kerja sama seluruh mahasiswa Fak. Filsafat, Panitia Retreat begitu juga dosen-dosen, maka retreat itu sudah berakir dengan me-muaskan.

RETREAT – SCHOOL  OF EDUCATION

Mrs. Fanny Sanger, the Dean of the School of Education opened the retreat of students and teach-ers of the school of education at around 8 p.m. on October 30, 2002, at Kalasey Indah Resort along side the beautiful Kalasey beach. In her opening remarks, Fanny expressed her gratitute to God for His guidance. In her desire for the success of the retreat, the dean kindly called the attention of the students to participate in the program so that they might be benefited from it. Approximately 150 students and teachers attend-ed the retreat. Beside cottages, half of the resort was circled with tents during those days of retreat. The theme of the retreat was “Restoration – Restoring the image of God in men.” There-fore, the seminar, vesper devotion, and Sabbath message were focused on restoration. Pastor John Karwur in his seminar under-scored the similarity of the work of education and the work of redemption that is to bring men back to perfection in which they were created. Pastor Nathan Ruhupatty in vesper message, zeroed in on the work of restoration on the lives of young people, while Pastor Rafles Watulingas, the Youth Director of the East Indonesia Union Confrence based his restoration message on Mathew chapter five. Various activities were presented during Sabbath afternoon followed by closing Sabbath devotion by Pastor Frans Sanger, Unklab Campus Ministry Director. The retreat was closed by Pastor John Karwur at 11 a.m., Nov.3, 2002, and at 12 o’clock students returned to Unklab, spiritually and physically blessed. The success of the retreat was due to the co-operation of students and teachers. A special appre-ciation goes to Mr. Billy Sakul, the retreat coordinator, and his staff for their untiring efforts, and to the dean of the school of education for her inspiration.                        What a retreat!  -- worship, seminar, recreation, and relaxation – gave color to it.

RETREAT MAHASISWA DAN DOSEN FKIP

Mrs. Fanny Sanger, Dekan FKIP, membuka dengan resmi retreat mahasiswa dan dosen FKIP pada sekitar jam delapan malam, tang-gal 30 Oktober, 2002, diresort Kalasey Indah yang terletak di-tepi pantai Kalasey. Dalam kata pembukaannya Fanny menyata-kan rasa syukur karena Tuhan sudah pimpin rombongan se-hingga tiba dengan selamat di-lokasi retreat. Didalam keinginan hatinya untuk satu retreat yang sukses, dekan itu juga mangajak para peserta untuk berpartisipasi dalam acara-acara retreat agar retreat tersebut boleh bermanfaat bagi mereka.  Sekitar 150 maha-siswa dan dosen menghadiri re-treat ini. Disamping cotage, se-paroh resort dilingkari dengan tenda-tenda selama waktu re-treat. Tema retreat adalah “Pe-mulihan – Memulihkan kembali peta Allah pada manusia.” Itulah sebabnya, seminar, kebaktian Jumaat malam, dan kotbah Sabat semuanya dipusatkan pada proses pemulihan. Pdt. John Karwur, P.R. I., dalam seminar yang dibawakannya menekankan kesamaan pekerjaan pendidikan dan pekerjaan penebusan, yaitu mengembalikan manusia kepada kesempurnaan ketika manusia itu diciptakan. Pdt. N. Ruhupatty dalam pekabaran vesper, meng-kususkan pekerjaan pemulihan pada kehidupan orang-orang mu-da, sementara Pdt. Rafles Watulingas, Direktur Pemuda Uni Konfrens Kawasan Timur Indonesia, mendasarkan kotbah-nya pada hari Sabat tentang pe-mulihan pada buku Matius pasal lima. Berbagai acara diadakan sepanjang Sabat petang dan di-ahiri dengan renungan tutup Sabat oleh Pdt. F. Sanger, Direk-tur Pelayanan Kampus Unklab. Acara retreat ditutup oleh Pdt. John Karwur pada jam 11.00 pa-gi, tanggal 3 Nop. 2002, dan pa-da jam 12.00 siang peserta retreat meninggalkan Kalasey Indah kembali kekampus dengan ber-kat-berkat rohani dan badani. Suksesnya acara retreat tersebut adalah hasil kerja sama maha-siswa-mahasiswa dan para dosen. Penghargaan kusus ditujukan ke-pada Mr. Billy Sakul, kordinator retreat, dan staffnya atas usaha mereka yang tak mengenal lelah, begitu juga kepada Dekan FKIP atas inspirasinya. Retreat yang sungguh indah!  – perbaktian, seminar, rekreasi, dan suasana santai – sudah membuatnya indah.

Pendaftaran pada semester I Tahun kuliah 2002-2003 berjumlah 1 671. Angka ini menunjukkan 31 lebih banyak dari semester I, tahun kuliah 2001-2002 yang lalu yang berjumlah 1 641. Dengan berkat Tuhan, ini adalah jumlah yang tertinggi dalam sejarah UNKLAB. Angka kenaikan ini, secara statistik, tidak signifikan; tetapi bila melihat persaingan ketat yang ada sekarang dalam dunia perguruan tinggi khususnya di  Manado dan Minahasa, maka kenaikan ini tidak bisa dianggap remeh. Kerja keras dari Pimpinan, dosen dan staff, begitu juga reputasi akademis dan iklim kerohanian kampus UNKLAB sudah menghasilkan kemajuan ini.
