Community Service

Community Service provides an opportunity to reach out to the world as ambassadors for Christ and meet physical, mental, and emotional needs. We are told that “many have no faith in God and have lost confidence in man. But they appreciate acts of sympathy and helpfulness. As they see one with no inducement of earthly praise or compensation coming to their homes, ministering to the sick, feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, comforting the sad, and tenderly pointing all to Him . . . their hearts are touched. . . . They see that God cares for them, and as His Word is opened they are prepared to listen.”—Medical Ministry, p. 247.

Brenda Brown (231-275-6143) is the Leader of our Community Services department.  We collect and distribute clothing and food for the needy in the Traverse City area and package the rest to be sent to foreign missions through the Community Services Division of the Michigan Conference of Seventh-day Adventists.  For more information on our service programs, click the tabs on the side navigation bar.

Several quilts have been donated to the new Goodwill Inn, with more being made to follow.  We went to the Open House and saw our quilts on the beds.  It is a very nice facility, and our quilts brightened the rooms!

Sixty gift bags containing a scarf, scraper, booklet, etc. were put together for the Benzie Food Pantry to be given out during the holidays.

We are making large bags to hold a quilt, stuffed animal and toiletries.  These bags will go to children involved in a fire or who have been removed from their parents.

Come and join us!  We can use your help.  Tuesdays Noon – 3:00 PM.

As you can imagine, this program requires a lot of work, and thankfully, Brenda gets help from several dedicated volunteers on her staff.  We can always use more help.  Please join us in our working sessions on Tuesdays from 12:00 AM - 3:00 PM, weather permitting, or contact Brenda to see what you can do to help out.
