CHIP - Coronary Health Improvement Project

The Coronary Health Improvement Project (CHIP), is an affordable, 4-week lifestyle education program with thousands of graduates worldwide. It is sponsored by our Traverse City SDA church and led by our Health Ministries Leader, Lucia Tiffany who is a certified leader for the CHIP program. We developed a strong, ongoing support system for participants after the formal program. CHIP encourages a close working relationship with one's personal physician.

Through dynamic and compelling live and video presentations, CHIP provides tools and strategies for making lifestyle choices that will stick. It delivers information, inspiration and motivation. The video presentations will be made by Dr. Hans Diehl.

Hans Diehl, Dr. HSc, MPH is Director of Lifestyle Medicine Institute of Loma Linda, California. His pioneering efforts with Nathan Pritikin and Dr. Denis Burkitt have shown conclusively that many of today's diseases are truly reversible through some simple lifestyle changes. As a best selling author, researcher, dynamic speaker & top-ranking motivator, he has lectured to corporations and governments and has presented seminars on four continents.

The CHIP lifestyle program is designed to dramatically reduce and even reverse your risk of atherosclerosis (narrowing of the arteries).  This silent process in the blood vessels is our #1 killer.  If you are overweight, have high blood pressure, diabetes, angina, or high cholesterol, or wish to avoid these problems, CHIP is for you.

Scientific evidence shows that most diabetic (adult onset), hypertensive and heart disease patients can normalize and even reverse their condition with a healthy lifestyle.  Let CHIP show you how.  CHIP also provides a monthly alumni support program.

CHIP participants receive:

  • 2 HeartScreens - a detailed risk factor analysis which includes
    • blood analysis: total cholesterol, LDL, HDL, triglycerides, and blood sugar levels
    • lifestyle questionnaire
    • blood pressure and heart rate
    • ideal weight determination
    • evaluation and recommendations
  • 16 evenings of informative and stimulating lifestyle lectures
  • Dynamic Living text and workbook, plus syllabus and other printed materials
  • Menu planning, recipes, food demonstrations and samples
  • Free, monthly alumni support group activities

Our last CHIP program was held in October & November, 2005.  You can see what a typical course agenda looks like below.  The next CHIP program in Traverse City will be held September and October, 2006.  Contact Lucia Tiffany for more information.
