There is an old story of a young officer who had dreamed since childhood of one day commanding a battleship. His dream finally came true when he was given command of the newest and grandest ship.

One stormy night, while the captain was at his post on the bridge he spotted a strange light rapidly approaching his own vessel. He ordered his signalman to flash a message to the unidentified craft. "Alter your course ten dgrees to the south."

Quickly a reply came, "Alter your course ten degrees to the north." Determined that his ship would never take ordered from an inferior one he snapped a second order. "Alter course ten degrees - I am the CAPTAIN!"

Quickly the response came back. "Alter your course ten degrees - I am Seaman Third Class Smith." The light was growing brighter and larger.

Angrily the captain grabbed the signal light and personally signaled, "Alter course. I am a battleship." The reply came just as quickly, "Alter your course. I am a lighthouse."

Sometimes life is like that. We think we know what is best and what decisions to make and God sends us the message, "I am the way, the truth , and the light." It is safe to follow His directions and counsel.

"You guide me with your counsel, and afterward you will take me into glory." Psalm 78:24
