"This program grew out of my own personal devotional life, at a time when I was studying and meditating on the closing scenes of the gospel story," says Ken Wade. He's talking about At the Cross, which will be presented for the first time in the United States on Friday evening, March 29 at 8 p. m. at the Caldwell Seventh-day Adventist Church. Ken and his family moved to the Treasure Valley from Singapore in 1994. His wife, Debby, will direct the choir that performs as part of the program.
Ken is an author with three books and many magazine articles to his credit, but he seldom gets involved in producing drama. "I'm basically the kind of person who would prefer to stay at home and read or write a book," he says. "It takes a lot to bring me out of my shell to do something this public. The story behind Easter, and the lives that were changed at the cross is one of the few things that move me that much."
At the Cross debuted in Singapore in 1993, and was well received by a large crowd there. Some of the Wades' friends heard about it, and the Caldwell church opened its doors and asked them to do a repeat performance here. The program includes choir, solo, and small-group music, plus dramatic retelling of the events of the first Good Friday from the viewpoint of people such as Peter, Martha, Nicodemus, Mary, and even one of the thieves who was crucified with Jesus. "People who see the program always come away with new insights--saying "You know, I wonder if that's how I would have responded," Wade says. "And that's what I want them to do--that's why I wrote it."
The church invites community members to attend this special program. Admission is free. For more information, phone the church office at ------
