E Parker

Sister Parker joined the Spanish Town Seventh-day Adventist Church in January 2008. A pleasant and sociable person, she greets you with a ready smile. She loves the Lord and eagerly participates in both the in -reach and outreach activities of her Sabbath School class.  She enjoys a good relationship with her class members.

How Did She Meet The Lord?
Sis. Parker formerly attended church but did not make a serious commitment for some time. So she began attending church again, committed her life fully to The Lord, and He answered her prayer. Today she is rejoicing.

H Perrin

Hugh Perrin, who is from a Methodist background, was baptized into the Spanish Town Seventh-day Adventist Church family on December 20, 2008.

This self-professed “quiet and reserved” management consultant describes his Adventist experience as “very good …extremely good”. Perrin finds the book of Isaiah intriguing.  Indeed, it is his favourite book of the Bible.

As many Jamaican men, he loves cricket and a good game of dominoes. Stewed chicken, peas or beans with carrotscomprise his favourite dish.

Hugh has spent many years in community service and addressing the needs of the youth.  He has been involved in politics, Kiwanis club and the Cadet Core.  He sees the Church as an excellent training ground for the youth and hopes that more of them will get involved in church activities, be consistent with the involvement and keep fast in the faith despite the distracting influences that exist. He speaks movingly of the importance of family in an individual’s life and plans to strengthen the church’s Family Life Department with his expertise and experience in youth issues.

Perrin also has a greenthumb and can often be seen gardening and farming. His love of travel has recently been tempered by the prevalence of violent and criminal acts in society.  As a result, he does not go out much anymore, he says.

Ian Sutherland, affectionately called Kirk, is rather short for his twenty-two years, yet neatly built with striking features. Aware of his attractive physique, he carries a cool confidence.  His serious countenance gives way to a shy smile every now and again. This smile played on Ian’s lips and his left eyebrow twitched slightly when asked to describe himself.

“Very cute”, he said with a look of mischief. His description of himself continued with adjectives like flexible, sociable, easy-going and focused.  He Iater added spiritual to the mix.

A past student of Spanish Town High, Ian is quite the intellectual. He presently studies Network and Telecommunications at the Portmore Community College.

Ian was baptised early last year and admitted that he was brought to the faith through the church’s literature. He has a passion for information and loves to read.  The only Christian in his household, Ian has daily devotions and reads his Bible and Ellen G. White literature everyday.

Our August-born brother is proud of his multi-racial heritage.  He is actually tri-racial as his father is half white, half Indian and his mother, black.

As any normal guy, he’s one for socializing (we look forward to seeing him at the Valentine’s Social next week).  Ian enjoys writing and revealed that he is currently working on his first book.  Sheepishly he confessed to cooking only when he has to.

His utopian view of the world frames his life’s philosophy.  He believes, “everything should be free because all knowledge comes from God and it’s free so all products thereof should also be free.”

Ian Sutherland - a regular guy with big dreams and a highly intellectual mind; our brother in Christ.

kasa

Kasa and Camilla Reid are the perfect example of the colloquial saying ‘Like bean in a Pod’. The two are inseparable and exude a strong bond of love and friendship.

The couple has been married for close to four months.  Interestingly, their marriage and baptism took place just a few days apart.

“I like everything about Camilla!” Kasa exclaimed.  Camilla however specified that Kasa’s sincerity, love and kindness were his attributes that attracted her to him.

Although Camilla was a baptised Adventist, she left the church and started worshiping at the Kingdom Builder Open Bible Church. It was there that her path crossed with Kasa’s and they subsequently fell in love.

“I was always searching for the truth about God and the day of worship.  I constantly studied my bible and the answer was revealed to me. I decided that I wanted to be part of the Adventist Church.  Camilla and I started to attend the Spanish Town SDA Church and then we got baptised,” Kasa explained.

“The Christian experience is great,” Kasa said and advises congregants to remain faithful to God.  “Pray and fast regularly.  There are many persons far worst off than you.”

Kasa is a filing Clerk at the Ministry of Education while Camilla is a student at the Hope Centre where she is preparing to sit CSEC English and Mathematics to qualify her to enter the field of nursing.

They both enjoy listening to music.  Camilla includes reading in the mix of things she finds pleasure in doing while Kasa adds playing computer games as part of his hobbies.

The hymn ‘How Great Thou Art’ is a favourite of both.  Camilla’s favourite scripture is Proverbs 15:1 – ‘A soft answer turneth away wrath but grievious words stirs up anger’. Kasa’s favourite passage is Psalm 91.

The two are looking forward to start their family when the time is right but will have to work out one important detail:  Camilla wants to have two children and Kasa is looking forward to having a dozen.
