Departmental Profile

The Church Working for you ...

Adventist Youth Department (AY)

The Adventist Youth department is the arm of the Church that works for and through the youth, encompassing all ages from birth to thirty years.  The Department plans and executes spiritual, informative, entertaining and wholesome programmes each Sabbath afternoon.  These programmes provide an opportunity for the youth, who themselves are involved in planning and executing, to develop leadership and public speaking skills, as well as, group dynamics, event planning and organizing abilities.  There is much interaction among youth from various Seventh-day Adventist congregations and often the young people travel from one location to another to present a programme, participate in or support other youth.

The AY Department plans various outreach activities for its members.  Officers of the Department include: leader, associate leader(s), secretary-treasurer, assistant secretary-treasurer, sponsor who are elected by the Church Board for a period not exceeding two years.

Communication & Media Relations Department

Public Relations is an important arm in the spreading of the gospel.  An eminent Adventist author, Ellen G. White, wrote in her book, Testimonies, vol. 6, p. 36, “We must take every justifiable means of bringing the light before the people.  Let the press be utilized, and let every advertising agency be employed that will call attention to the work.”

This department, is “responsible for gathering information on church activities and getting it to newspapers and radio and television stations.”

The Communications Secretary who heads the department is expected to engage persons of interest on interview-type programs on air and write news articles and features.  He/she should bring to the congregation’s attention public discussions and topical issues that have relevance to the church’s operations.

The Department is equipped with personnel trained in communications, event planning and public relations and maintains friendly, cooperative relationships with editors and other communications/media personnel.  It bears the responsibility of sensing newsworthy events in the church program and watch news media closely for opportunities to present a true picture of the church to the public.

Pathfinder and Adventurer Clubs

The Pathfinder & Adventurer Club is the uniformed group of the Adventist Youth Society.  It caters to the physical, social and spiritual needs of the youth in a practical way. This semi-military organization teaches children aged 6-15 discipline and helps them adopt a Christ-like disposition. Activities within the club include: camping, hiking, drilling & marching, tying knots and learning first aid. The Pegasus Pathfinder and Adventurer clubs meet on Sunday mornings at 8:30. READ MORE
