STEP #2

 

We came to believe that God, through Jesus Christ, could restore us to sanity.

(Romans 8:9-16) The mind of sinful man is death, but the mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace. (Isaiah. 26:3 Romans 1:21,6:23; 2 Timothy. 1:7)

No one comes to the Father except through Jesus. If you have seen me you’ve seen the Father you can be sane by renewing your mind changing your thinking = changing your behavior.

STEP #3

 

We make a decision to turn our lives over to God through Jesus Christ.

(Romans 10:9-10) That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord”, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. (Ps. 32:5: John. 14:6: Acts 17:31: 2 Corinthians. 6:2)

STEP # 4

 

We make a searching fearless moral inventory of ourselves.

(Galatians. 6:4 Amp.) But let every person carefully scrutinize and examine and test his own conduct and his own work. He can then have the personal satisfaction and joy of doing something commendable in itself alone without resorting to boasting comparison’s with his neighbor. (Corinthians.11:31;2 Corinthians.13:5)

STEP # 5

 

We admit to God, to ourselves, and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs.

(James 5:16 Amplified version.) Confess to one another, therefore, your faults, and pray also for one another, that you may be healed and restored, to a spiritual tone of mind and heart. The earnest heartfelt, continued prayer of a righteous man makes tremendous power available, dynamic in its working. (Leviticus. 5:5-7a;Psalm. 32:5; Proverbs. 28:13; 1 John 1:19)

STEP # 6

 

We commit ourselves to obedience to God, desiring that he remove patterns of sin from our lives.

(James 4:7-10) So give yourselves humbly to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. And when you draw close to God; God will draw close to you. Wash your hands you sinners, and let your hearts be filled with God alone to make them pure and turn to him. Let there be tears for the wrong things you have done. Let there be sorrow and sincere grief. Let there be sadness instead of laughter, and gloom instead of joy. Then when you realize your worthlessness before the Lord, he will lift you up, encourage you and help you. (Psalms. 51:9-10; 2 Peter 1:3-4)

STEP #7

 

We choose to renew our mind through God’s Word so that our sinful patterns can be transformed into patterns of righteousness.

(Romans. 12:2) Do not be conformed any longer to this world, But be ye transformed by the renewal of your mind, by the Word of God, by its new ideas and attitude’s, so that you may prove for yourselves what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God, even the thing which is good and acceptable and perfect in His sight for you. (1 Corinthians. 14:20; 2 Corinthians 10:5; Ephesians 4:22-23)

STEP #8

 

We make a list of all persons we have harmed, and become willing to make amends to them all.

(Luke 6:31-37) Do to others, as you would have them do unto you. Do not judge and you will not be judged. Do not condemn and you will not be condemned. Forgive and you will be forgiven. (Ephesians. 4:31-32; Philippians. 2:13; Colossians. 3:13 Amp.)

STEP # 11

 

We seek to grow in our relationship with Jesus Christ through prayer, meditation, and obedience, praying for wisdom and the power to carry out His will.

(Ephesians 3:16) I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and how high and deep is the Love of Christ, and to know this Love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than we can ask or think, according to his power that is at work in us, to Him be Glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. STEP # 12

 

Having had a spiritual awakening, we try to carry the message of Christ grace and restoration power to others who are chemically dependent, and to practice these principles in all our affairs.

Eight Recovery Principles based on the Beatitudes

 

R = Principle 1 - Realize I'm not God; I admit that I am powerless to control my tendency to do the wrong thing and my life is unmanageable.

"Happy are those who know they are spiritually poor"

E = Principle 2 - Earnestly believe that God exists, that I matter to him, and that he has the power to help me recover.

"Happy are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted"

C = Principle 3 - Consciously choose to commit all my life and will to Christ's care and control.

"Happy are the meek"

O = Principle 4 - Openly examine and confess my faults to God, to myself, and to another person whom I trust.

"Happy are the pure in heart"

V = Principle 5 - Voluntarily submit to any and all changes God wants to make in my life.

"Happy are those whose greatest desire is to do what God requires"

E = Principle 6 - Evaluate all my relationships; Offer forgiveness to those who have hurt me and make amends for harm I've done to others when possible, without expecting any reward.

"Happy are the merciful" "Happy are the peacemakers"

R = Principle 7 - Reserve a daily time with God for prayer, Bible reading, and self-examination in order to know God and his will for my life and to gain the power to follow his will.

Y = Principle 8 - Yield myself to be used by God to bring this Good News to others, both by my example and by my words.
