Men Influencing Others Toward God

Men's Ministry Social
(March 5, 2005)

The Southampton SDA church hall was brought alive with excitement, laughter and euphoria generated from the first Men’s Ministry social held on Saturday night March 5, 2005.
The fun started at approximately 8:30 pm and from then on it was an exciting affair. On entering the church hall kids could be seen scampering from point to point generating their own fun. Organized games started later with kids and adults playing board games.
To one end of the auditorium there was an interesting table tennis rivalry between the youths and the seniors. Brother Tucker who represented the seniors totally devastated and humiliated the youngsters. Folks stood in amazement at his agility and skill. It wasn’t until the closing moments of the social that the youngsters were able to win some games.

Over the period youths and seniors played in the river on the bank, concentration games, computer games and group discussions and interactions.

The Men’s Ministry provided the fuel for the night by providing an energy pact menu complete with fruits and deserts. Folks were able to replenish their plates over and over again. The gourmet committee did an excellent job. Special thanks to Brother Hamilton who ensured that all were satisfied.
There was a good representation from all areas of the church family. The support given to this venture was outstanding considering the fact that we had a long day at church. The resilience and tenacity of the men’s ministry in pushing ahead with this program cannot be overstated. The children, families and seniors by their presence and demeanor totally enjoyed the experience.
The fellowship and socialization which this social provided allowed a culture of brotherly love and oneness. The Men’s Ministry has indeed embraced the notion that families that play together stay together.

    Black History Dinner Celebration

As February has been designated  ‘Black History Month’,  the men of Southampton Church thought it appropriate to have a dinner to celebrate, and commemorate the contributions of our ancestors, and those who have made it possible for us to experience the freedoms we now enjoy.

This event was held on Sunday, February 22nd ’04 , at 6:00 p.m., in the ‘Fellowship Hall’.

The theme was  ‘Male Warriors ? Men Influencing Others Toward God’.

Bro. Sherman Swan conducted a spirit filled songs-peration, followed by a ‘Call To War’, from Bro. Michael Byron, which in fact was a call of awareness.

He mentioned that we were in an actual war, and we needed to act like men in war, and not worry about trivial stuff. He used the example of a group under attack with mortar who were just trying to survive the ‘incoming’, this tied in with our theme  ‘Male Warriors’.

Music was provided by Bro. Kevin Shirley, who delivered a powerful message in song, followed by a melodious flute selection by Bro. Michael Taylor.

Bro. Dana Lovell shared with us that in any war, we needed other men to encourage us along the way, and he spoke of his late father, Bro. Ira Lovell, who encouraged and influence him tremendously as a young boy growing up, through the example of his own life.

As the evening progressed, other men stood and spoke about how they were influenced, and encouraged by their invited guest who had joined them at this very special dinner celebration.

The evening concluded with Pastor Donnieval Walker, who delivered a challenge to all with the question, “What Makes A Warrior”?

The benediction was given by Elder Howard Crockwell, who prayed for all men to be warriors for God.
