Sanctuary 7 Women's Refuge is an independent, Christian, voluntary organisation.
We believe domestic violence occurs where there is
emotional, verbal, physical, psychological, financial, social, or spiritual
abuse in relationships and that this is a result of both individual and
societal factors. Unfortunately, domestic violence has a gendered
nature where women are predominantly the victims and survivors.
We believe all people are entitled to live in a non-abusive
environment where there is equality, mutual respect and love within their
relationships.
We believe society is based on family units and any
breakdown of this unit causes families to be in crisis. Where domestic
violence causes fractures within this family unit, the women's and children's
safety and well-being is a priority.
We believe women and children in domestic violence are entitled to support and information to assist them to leave the abusive situation. This requires a response addressing both the immediate and long-term issues, looking at the whole person, in particular, the physical,
psychological and spiritual aspects.
We believe women need to be aware of all the options available and the subsequent consequences, so they can make decisions which will lead to positive changes and will allow them to live self determined,
independent lives free from violence.
To this end Sanctuary 7 Women's Refuge provides the facility where women and children who are in domestic violence situations are offered crisis accommodation in a safe and secure environment; 24 hour access to staff availability; counselling and education; and referral to other services as required, including legal and financial agencies.
