History of the Ruth SDA Church

 From the beginning...

It all began on May 10 1997 under the leadership of Pastor Winston Hurlock, as senior pastor, and Pastor Wayne Williams as associate pastor. With a desire to spread the everlasting gospel the mother church, Brampton initiated plans to begin another church. Soon a small group of twenty-five members left the safety and comfort of the Brampton Church to embark on a new journey; a journey that took them to 25 Ruth Avenue, Brampton. There they rented the Heartlake Presbyterian

Church building and began worshipping. During the months that followed the warmth and love of the membership was evident. As they ministered to each other and to the community the membership grew with consistency. With a common voice they all echoed the same sentiment, that their church would be known as the caring church.

After a few months the name Ruth was chosen. This name had its biblical basis in the story of Ruth of the Hebrew Bible. All agreed that the Hebrew equivalent of the Moabite name Ruth which means friendship was fitting for this congregation.

After about twenty months the Ruth church was formally organized as a church and accepted into the sisterhood of churches in the Ontario Conference of Seventh-day Adventist. The church continued to experience growth in its membership.

By January 2002 the Ruth church had grown so rapidly that the Ontario Conference decided that they could stand on their own and appointed Pastor Reynold Hazelwood as their pastor. Ruth grew from strength as it embarked on a number of programs and initiatives. With a strong desire for saving its young people Ruth established its own pathfinder club in 2001 under the leadership of Ralph Walker, as director.Ruth Pathfinder club together its membership and in conjunction with the other churches in the region of peel  initiated the very first Peel anti-drug march and rally in 2002, an event that has become an annual affair. Not very long after the Adventurer club, under the Leadership of Mary McIntyre was started. We give praise to God for having very strong Pathfinder and Adventurer clubs. One of the outstanding achievements of the Pathfinder club, is the winning of the pathfinder drill competition in 2003.

With a strong desire to have its own place of worship the Ruth church established a building fund drive in 2000. It has hosted many concerts, banquets and garage sale together with individual pledges that has helped towards the soon to be acquired two acre property to build a church complex.

Evangelism has been a hallmark of the Ruth church from its very beginning. As a result the church has consistently sponsored Bible studies, Revelation seminars, Daniel Seminars, Family life seminars, Evangelistic meetings, and grief counseling seminars. The community services department has consistently assisted needy families and sponsored annual Christmas food hampers to needy recipients. Through the Sabbath School and Personal Ministries Departments the church ministers to two seniors residences every month. Even through our social events we have been able to introduce many friends to Jesus. To all these initiatives and activities we give all the praise and thanks to Jesus.
