What is Coaching?
The new field of personal and professional coaching helps people to improve their overall performance and live balanced and fulfilling lives. Coaching, as defined by the Personal and Professional Coaches Association, is "an ongoing relationship which focuses on the clients taking action toward the realization of their vision, goals or desires."
How Does ADD Coaching Work?
The coaching process is highly individualized and takes shape according to the client’s needs. Regular meetings and telephone check-ins with accountability are the guideposts of the coaching process. A partnership with a coach can help re-focus the client’s energy, ultimately turning failure and frustration into accomplishment and pride.
Why is ADD Coaching So Effective?
Coaching is a perfect "fit" for the ADD brain. Individuals with ADD are often frustrated by the gap that exists between their ability and their achievement. The coaching process provides the support, scaffolding, and structure needed to bridge that gap. Through coaching, individuals with ADD are able to accomplish goals that have been hampered due to deficits in short term memory and executive functioning.
Who Can Benefit from ADD Coaching?
Individuals of all ages can learn to acknowledge strengths, accept limitations, develop social skills, and actively create strategies that enable them to be more effective in managing their daily lives. ADD Coaching is for individuals who have:
- a strong desire for personal growth and improvement
- a commitment to take action and participate fully in the coaching process.
- a willingness and a desire to be accountable.
Can I Enter into a Long-Distance Coaching Relationship?
Yes. As long as you can arrange to get together with your coach for an initial two-hour meeting. The coaching relationship can then take place entirely by phone and/or e-mail. Many successful coaching relationships involve coaches and clients who are separated by large geographical distances.
How Do I Start the Process?
You begin by making an initial telephone call. At that time a meeting is arranged, whereby you get together with a coach for approximately two hours, discuss the areas in which you are seeking help and devise a plan for moving forward. After that, you’re on your way!
Coaching Rates are: $85 per contact hour; $70 per telephone hour. A minimum commitment of one hour per week is required. E-mail your request for an initial meeting to: PowerLines@juno.com or call (407) 889-5524.
