MINISTRY OF MUSIC

The purpose of the music ministry at the Oakwood Church is to help nourish the spirit. The choir, which rehearses on Thursdays at 7:30 p.m. welcomes youth and adults. There is also a youth/adult Handbell choir, which rehearses on Thursdays at 6:30 p.m.

A fine group of instrumentalists performs solos, some play in an ensemble, the "Instruments of Praise". We also have many talented youth, who sing and play a variety of instruments. A guitar ensemble regularly leads the song service before Sabbath worship. An Indonesian "Kolintang" ensemble performs on special occasions.

The diversity of our multinational congregation is reflected in the music at Oakwood Church. The Church Music Committee and Choir Director Sandra Weaver and Amos Walls have the task of choosing a wide variety of music for the many ensembles and choirs. Our excellent organist Amos Walls, selects a wide variety of music to celebrate our diversity to play during the worship service.

The 1996 Advent and Easter season gave us an opportunity to minister by presenting cantatas, which included dramatizations performed by a large group of our youth. Thanks to two of our youth leaders, Evelyn Flores and Toni Davis, both cantatas were dramatized with great success.
The 1997 Christmas Cantata was also dramatized with great success.

Sacred music softens the heart and helps prepare the intellect for the gospel of salvation. Come to be filled with the spirit each Sabbath and to hear and see that the Lord Jesus is good.
