North Bahamas Mission Workers Meet
On Sunday, September
21, 2008, workers in the North Bahamas Mission met at the Grouper Grille
Restaurant in Grand Bahama for Workers’ Meeting, an event held each year. Workers were
inspired and motivated for greater service to the Master by the devotion brought
by Dr. Wendell R. McMillan, Field Secretary for the Adventist Church in the West
Indies. In his powerful and timely message “Boycott”, Dr. McMillan
admonished the workers not to "boycott" their commitment to service.
In welcoming all
the workers to the session, Pastor E. Bryan Tinker, President of the North
Bahamas Mission, introduced the office staff, and invited the Principal of Grand
Bahama Academy, Mrs. Desiree Forbes, to also introduce her staff. New to the
pastoral force is Pastor Desmond Sturrup, a ministerial intern.
Joining the Grand Bahama Academy family were Mrs. Viria Garland, Mr. Gittens and Mr.
Henry Morgan, teachers at the secondary and primary levels.
The business
session of the meeting brought each worker up to date on the evangelistic plans
and goals for the rest of the year, leading up to Pentecost and More in 2009.
The Treasurer of the Mission, Elder Roderick Sands, brought information on
financial matters, and Pastor Michael A. Smith, Executive
Secretary, discussed several policy items.
The principal reiterated
that two of the
four additional classrooms at Grand Bahama Academy (GBA) had been completed and
are now in use. The Academy now has an enrolment of 278 students, an increase of
62 over the last school year. In addition to this, there are now two grade 7s
and the first year for Grade 12. The school continues to offer sound academic,
spiritual and holistic development programs and an ongoing solid curriculum from
K2 – Grade 12.
Realizing the grand
task to “finish this work”, workers left this conclave energized to do his/her
best for the Master.
