SPIRIT OF PROPHECY
by Prof. F J de Waal,UDWIDENTIFICATION MARKS OF HE REMNANT
The two plainest credentials of Gods remnant are found in Rev 12:17 and Rev 14:12, viz.
Keeping of the commandments of God.
Possessing the "testimony of Jesus Christ" or "Gift of prophecy",
THE GIFT OF PROPHECY IN THE OLD TESTAMENT
Before sin God talked with man face to face (Gen. 3: 8). Sin prevented direct communication between God and man (Isa. 59: 2). God chose to communicate by human mouthpieces/"prophets"/"Gift of prophecy" (Num. 12: 6; Ex. 4 :15,16; 7 :1, 2; Amos 3: 7; Heb. 1:1; ll Peter 1: 21; Hosea 1Z :10).
THE GIFT OF PROPHECY IN THE NEW TESTAMENT
(I Cor. 14 :1; Acts 13 :1;11: 27, 28; 21: 9-11; I Cor. 12 :10; Eph. 4 : 8-11; Rev. 1: 1, 2).
"The testimony of Jesus", is the voice of God in human form (Deut. 18:15-19; I Peter 1:10, 11; Rev. 19:9, 10; Heb. 1:1, 2; I Peter 3 :18-20). God has "set"/permanently established the Gift of prophecy in His Church till the close of time (I Cor. 12: 27, 28; 13: 8-13; Eph. 4:8-11; I Cor. 1 :6, 7).
To give special guidance to His Church in the latter days, God would do so in His normal way (Heb. 1 3: 8; Prov. 29: 1 8) .
THE GIFT OF PROPHECY IN THE LAST DAYS
The Bible states that God will speak and that He will use the Gift of prophecy in His Remnant Church (Rev. 12 :17;19 :10; 22: 8, 9; Acts 2 :17-21; Joel 2: 28-32).
Ellen G. White's life, work and teachings are in harmony with the Bible and the qualifications of a true prophet (I Thess. 5 :19-21; Isa. 8: 20; Matt. 7: 20; Jer. 28: 9; Deut. 18: 21, 22; 1 John 4: 2).
I Thess. 5: 20, 21: "Despise not prophesyings. Prove all things. Hold fast that which is good."
INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT E G WHITE
She was born at Gorham, Maine, U.S.A., 26th November, 1827, with a twin sister
¾Elizabeth. Her parents were Robert and Eunice Harmon, Methodist Episcopal Church members in their early days and eight children in the family. She converted at a Methodist camp-meeting, March, 1840 and was baptised at the age of 13 at Portland, Maine, by a Methodist minister. She left the Methodist Church in Portland, Maine, 1843, because of Adventist views and married James White, 30th August, 1846. Four children, all boys, were born to James and Ellen White.
Her first vision was in December, 1844 (see "Early Writings'', pp 13-20). Her health reform vision was given on 6 June, 1863. She began keeping the Sabbath in the autumn of 1846, soon after marriage. She was given instruction to begin the publishing work in November, 1848 and the first issue of "Present Truth" appeared in July, 1849.
James White died 6 August, 1881.
She laboured in Europe two years, from summer of 1885 to autumn of 1887 and did pioneer work in Australia from 1892 to 1900. On 13 February, 1915, she fell in her home at St. Helena and broke her left leg. She died 16 July, 1915. Her funeral was on Sabbath, 24th July, 1915, at Battle Creek and she was buried at Oak Hill Cemetery.

SOME UNDENIABLE EVIDENCE THAT E G WHITE WAS A PROPHET SENT FROM GOD!
NATURAL SCIENCE
ORION'S OPEN SPACE!
THE BIBLE!
Job 38:31 Canst thou bind the sweet influences of Pleiades, or loose the bands of Orion? Am 5:8 [Seek him] that maketh the seven stars and Orion, ....The LORD [is] his name:
Joe 3:14 Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision: for the day of the LORD [is] near in the valley of decision. Joe 3:15 The sun and the moon shall be darkened, and the stars shall withdraw their shining. Joe 3:16 The LORD also shall roar out of Zion, and utter his voice from Jerusalem; and the heavens and the earth shall shake:...
Lu 21:25 And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring;
E G WHITE - 1848!
'... The powers of heaven will be shaken at the voice of God. Then the sun, moon and stars will be moved out of their places. They will not pass away, but be shaken by the voice of God. Dark, heavy clouds come up , and clashes against each other. The heavy atmosphere parted and rolled back, then we could look up through the open space in Orion, whence came the voice of God. The Holy City will come down through that open space.' (EW p.41 - 1848)
SCIENCE - 1918!
Seventy years later William J Showalter, with the aid of a new powerful telescope wrote: 'The central portion of the Huygenian region in the nebula of Orion is the opening of a colossal cavern in the primordial stellar floor. The nebular is no longer a flat surface. One peers within cosmic deeps, one looks into a chasm before which all powers of imagination are submerged, and feasts the eye with supernal splendours. It is like looking in at a door and to the rear of a cave, deep within glittering nebulosity. The chasm is the most beautiful object visible to human sight. Pillars, columns, walls, facades, bulwarks, stalactites and stalagmites are within deeps of deeps. They glow and shine superbly with pearly light.'
ELECTRICITY GERMINATES SEEDS!
THE BIBLE!
Mr 4:26 And he said, So is the kingdom of God, as if a man should cast seed into the ground; Mr 4:27 And should sleep, and rise night and day, and the seed should spring and grow up, he knoweth not how. Mr 4:28 For the earth bringeth forth fruit of herself; first the blade, then the ear, after that the full corn in the ear.
E G WHITE - 1900!
'There is life in the seed, there is power in the soil; but unless infinite power is exercised day and night, the seed will yield no return. The showers of rain must refresh the thirsty fields; the sun must impart warmth; electricity must be conveyed to the buried seed. The life which the creator has implanted , He alone can call forth. Every seed grows, every plant develops, by the power of God. (COL p.63 - 1900 and Educ. p.104 - 1903)
SCIENCE - NOVEMBER 22, 1959!
Periodic, predictable electrical rhythms exist not only in humans but in trees and other forms of life, the symposium was told by Dr. Burr. He said the vigour and growth rate of plants already have been successfully predicted by measurement of the electricity in cotton seeds. (Washington Post, Nov. 22,1959, p.A-1)

NUTRITION!
SALT!
E G WHITE - 1881!
'Food should be prepared in as simple a manner as possible, free from condiments and spices, and even from an undue amount of salt....I use some salt, and always have, because from the light given me by God, this article, in place of being deleterious, is actually essential for the blood'. (Councils on Diet and Food - 1881, p.340, - 1901, p.344)
SCIENCE - 1957!
Today salt-free diets are seldom advocated, but low-salt diets are proving beneficial. (Mervyn G Hardinge, M.D., The proper use of salt, Review and Herald, August 22, 1957)
REFINED FOODS!
E G WHITE - 1854!
'I then saw that appetite must be denied, that rich food should not be prepared ..Eat less fine food; eat coarse food, free from grease. (MS 3, 1854, Messenger to the Remnant, p.50) Fine-flour bread is lacking in nutritive elements to be found in bread made from the whole wheat.' (Ministry of Healing, p.300)
SCIENCE - 1959!
Near the end of Mrs. White life, in 1915, men began to appreciate that the milling of white flour removed most of the vitamins, part of the protein, and the important trace minerals such as iron. However, even nutritional authorities were very slow to inveigh against white bread. Today nutritionist know that these vital constituents are lost when the bran and germ are taken from the wheat. Dr. McCay, Review and Herald, February 19,1959, p.7)
COMPLETE PROTEIN!
E G WHITE!
'All wheat flour is not best for a continuous diet. A mixture of wheat, oatmeal, and rye would be more nutritious than the wheat with the nutrifying properties separated from it.' (Councels on Diet and Foods, p.321)(Ezekiel 4:9)
SUGAR AND MILK!
E G WHITE - 1868!
'..Sugar clogs the system. It hinders the working of the living machine...I frequently..see that they use a great amount of milk and sugar. These clog the system, irritate the digestive organs, and affect the brain. Anything that hinders the active motion of the living machinery affects the brain very directly. And from the light given me, sugar, when largely used, is more injurious than meat. (Testimonies, vol.2, pp.369,370)
SCIENCE - 1943/1951!
White sugar contributes only calories to the diet. It is clear that the present large consumption of sugar is disadvantageous in that it means a smaller consumption of nutritionally superior foods. (The Handbook of Nutrition, American Medical Association, 1951, p. 635)
It is probable that many staphylococcic infections are intensified by too much sugar. (Indigestion, W B Saunders, 1943, p.458)
VEGETARIAN DIET!
E G WHITE - 1906!
In grains (INCLUDING SEEDS), fruits, vegetables and nuts are to be found all the food elements that we need. If we will come to the Lord in simplicity of mind, He will teach us how to prepare wholesome food free from the taint of flesh meat. (Councels an Diet and Foods, p.92)
SCIENCE!
All the evidence from both animal experiments and human experience supports, in a manner which can never be broken down, the viewpoint that meat is not necessary in the human diet. It also supports the conclusion that the best type of diet is the lactovegetarian diet. (Dr. E V McCollum, John Hopkins University)
A very extensive study of 112 vegetarian and 88 non-vegetarian adults, adolescents, and pregnant women was done by Hardinge and Stare. A thorough physical examination of each subject with careful consideration of height, weight, blood pressure, and the presence of any pathological conditions, especially any which might indicate nutritional deficiency, was made.
Among the expectant mothers, there was no evidence obtained to indicate the lacto-ovo-vegetarian diet failed to provide the dietary standards for adequate nutrition.
The total protein, albumin, and globulin values and the haematological findings for all the groups, vegetarian and non-vegetarian, were not statistically different. - Hardinge, M G et al., "Nutritional Studies of Vegetarians," The Journal of Clinical Nutrition, 2:73, 1954.
FAT!
E G WHITE - 1905!
The oil, as eaten in the olive, is far preferable to animal oil or fat. (Ministry of Healing, p. 298)
SCIENCE!
Fatty foods are believed to be indigestible. It is true that an excessive amount of fat in the diet of susceptible persons will cause intestinal disturbances. Much, however, depends on the nature of the fat... Warning, however, should be given to improperly fried foods, since they are often so thoroughly impregnated with fat as to prevent ready access of the digestive juices. (Nutrition and Diet in Health and Disease, McLester-Darby, 6th Edition, pp. 199, 200)
Significant atherosclerosis is rare in peoples whose diet over the life span is predominantly vegetarian and low in calories, total lipids (fats), saturated lipids (solid fats), and cholesterol. (Nutrition and Atherosclerosis, Louis N Katz, Jeremiah Stamler, Ruth Pick, p. 20)
SOCIAL WORLD!
LABOUR UNIONS!
E G WHITE
Because the rich "have exalted themselves against the poor," trouble and conflict result. The labouring classes are joining together for strength and consolidating into "agencies that will bring upon this earth a time of trouble such as has not been since the world began." (Selected Messages, Book II, p. 142)
POLITICAL STRIFE/WAR!
E G WHITE - 1904!
Soon great trouble will arise among the nations, - trouble that will not cease until Jesus comes. (Review and Herald, Feb.11, 1904)
Human agencies are being trained, and are using their inventive power to put in operation the most powerful machinery to wound and to kill. (Testimonies, vol. 8, p. 50, 1904)
E G WHITE - 1910!
Soon strife among the nations will break out with an intensity that we do not now anticipate. The present is a time of overwhelming interest to all living. Rulers and statesmen, men who occupy positions of trust and authority, thinking men and women of all classes, have their attention fixed upon the events taking place about us. They are watching the strained, restless relations that exist among the nations. They observe the intensity that is taking possession of every earthly element, and they realize that something great and decisive is about to take place, that the world is on the verge of a stupendous crisis. (Review and Herald, Nov 1, 1910, p.8)
In the visions of the night a very impressive scene passed before me. I saw an immense ball of fire fall among some beautiful mansions, causing their instant destruction. I heard someone say: "We knew that the judgments of God were coming upon the earth, but we did not know that they would come so soon." Other, with agonized voices, said, "You know! Why then did you not tell us? We did not know." On every side I heard similar words of reproach spoken. (Testimonies, vol. 9, p. 28, 1909)
Great Controversy Prophecies
The results of the circulation of the book (The Great Controversy) are not to be judged by what now appears. By reading it, some souls will be aroused, and will have courage to unite themselves at once with those who keep the commandments of God. But a much larger number who read it will not take their position until they see the very events taking place that are foretold in it. The fulfilment of some of the predictions will inspire faith that others also will come to pass, and when the earth is lightened with the glory of the Lord, in the closing work, many souls will take their position on the commandments of God as the result of this agency. (Colporteur Ministry, pp. 128, 129)
One of authority was addressing the company, before whom was spread out a map of the world. He said that the map pictured God's vineyard, which must be cultivated. As light from heaven shone upon any one, that one was to reflect the light to others. Lights were to be kindled in many placed, and from these lights still other lights were to be kindled...I saw jets of light shining from cities and villages, and from the high places and the low places of the earth. God's word was obeyed, and as a result there were memorials for Him in every city and village.
