Beloved,
I probably missed the voting process. My topics of choice, in order
of preference are:
1. Are the dead really dead?
2. Is 100 % perfection/holiness/uprightness attainable in this earth?
3. Role of professionals and intellectuals in SDA Church (if any).
To make Him King of my life and of the lives of all those around me.

Have you thought of contacting Dr van Zyl to see what info he may have on
the topic of the History of the church in South Africa?

SAD NEWS
Pastor Daniel Douman was tragically killed in a motor car accident near Britstown. He was currently the pastor of the Southern Hope Conference churches in Kimberley. He was on his way home after spending time at Helderberg College working on his Masters degree. The previous day he had attended the funeral of Pastor La Kaye. We wish to express our sincere condolences to his wife and family. The funeral is to be held in Cape Town.

Friends,
The discussion topics are interesting, I have no doubt we will learn a
lot. However, I have a bit of a problem with the order. Please forgive me
I could not say this last week as my email was not working. I think we
need to discuss the gospel before we discuss gospel commission and crisis
in Adventism. These two subjects depend on our understanding of what the
gospel really is.
1. The gospel commission.
I think we need to understand what we mean by the gospel before we think
about spreading it. What is our understanding of the gospel? Is the
Sabbath message, for instance, part of the gospel? Is the gospel equal to
our 27 fundamental beliefs?
Another alternative is to combine the two subjects, viz Salvation (all
three phases) and The Gospel Commission. We cannot start with the latter
and then go back to define what the gospel is.
2. Crisis in Adventism.
Again I think our understanding of the gospel will help us when we come to
the discussion of the two groups that threaten to divide Adventism. The
two groups, in my opinion, are "Evangelical Adventists" and "Historical
Adventists". Evangelical Adventsists claim to put more emphasis on the
gospel while the other group is accused of putting more emphasis on the
distinctive doctrines of the church like the Sanctuary.
To me the problem is the understanding of the gospel.
NOTE: I am not raising these issues to start a new discussion on the
order, I'm prepared to follow what was discussed last week.
... To know Christ and Him Crucified
