Denzil Swanepoel passed away on Friday. His funeral takes place this afternoon at 14:30. On behalf of the Cape Conference we wish to extend our condolences to Ina, Jacques, Rubert and Delia as they lay their son and brother to rest.
PRAYER REQUESTS
JOSEF BIRKENSTOCK (Ray & Dawn Jerrard, Australia)
Last night I sent out a prayer request for Pr Josef Birkenstock, asking you to pray for him and his family as he was due to have surgery for a tumour in the bowel this morning.
We just had word early this morning that the surgery will now take place Thursday, 14th October. He apparently is a lot worse than we were first informed and is very weak, having lost 12 kgs in less than a month, and not being able to eat or keep anything down. - So they are delaying surgery to try to build him up little.
LIVING LINK / LEWENDE SKAKEL (Pastor Baxen)
The second and last issue of the Living Link for the year 1999 is due. Please ask your congregation to send in news, articles, letters, photographs, etc. It would be appreciated if these could be received by 12 November 1999./
NEWS FROM LOERIE PARK, GEORGE (Urma Williams)
Pr Martin Retief was asked to broadcast a sermon on our local radio
station. This will be recorded on WEDNEDAY, 13/10 to be broadcast on
Sunday 17th - and we are starting our satelite programme on Monday 18/10!
What better timing and advertising could the Lord had for us? !
NEWS FROM GOODWOOD
Goodwood Church celebrated their 50th Anniversary this past Sabbath. We praise the Lord for the many years that this church and its members have stood as a witness to glorify God!
NEW CONNECTION (Brenda-Louise Pretorius)
We are a group of youth from the Tygerburg Church doing childrens ministry mainly with puppets. We are active among youth as well. We recently had a project where we collected books for poor countries, Ghana included. We have about 80 Kg's of literature and we would appreciate any help from folks in contributing to covering the postage costs as it gets a bit expensive. For any info or bookings etc they can contact me at Tel: 021 - 96 1855, or pret.fam@mweb.co.za

PREPARE / ENRICH
Last Friday Pastors Peter Dalbock, Alan Parker, Jaco Martiz and Shirley Allen attended training by FAMSA (Family and Marriage Society of South Africa) so that they can be better equipped to help couples preparing for marriage or those who have already been married for two years. If you are preparing for marriage please contact them if you would like to do the Prepare/Enrich programme.
NEWS FROM ANDREWS (Pastor Marek Piotrowski)
Thank you for the the good wishes. I did pass and my diss was accepted with some corrections. I found the 2 hour session quite gruelling--but it is now something of the past! I will march next June.
STATISTICS FROM ADVENTIST.FM (Errol van Eck)
Statistics show rapid growth
Statistics just released show the ratio of Adventists to non-Adventists is
dropping sharply world-wide. In 1994 there was one Adventist for every 669
people on the planet. Five years later, according to the latest statistics,
this figure had dropped to one in 583. The statistics also show a dramatic
increase in the number of baptisms per hour. Five years ago there were 71.8
baptisms and confessions of faith every hour. Last year, this had increased
dramatically to 93.4 every hour. Projections suggest that this year we are
probably having about 100 baptisms every hour.
Adventist TV in South America
Adventist TV programs are now being broadcast 24 hours a day in Peru, Argentina
and Columbia. The programs are relayed via satellite to land based stations
mainly in small country areas.
Chinese hire online evangelist
jwash@pacific.net.hk The Chinese Union Mission has hired an Internet evangelist
to cope with the large response to its new website. In the first two months
online, its new website has had 8000 visitors with 4-5 prayer requests and
Bible Study requests per day. "The potential is increadible for online
evangelism," says John Ash, the Chinese Union Missions Communication Director.
"Where in 1995 there was virtually no private internet use in mainland China,
by the end of this year there will be 12 million Internet users." The new
internet evangelist will respond personally to mail and connect interests with
a local church in the reader's area. The website is called Village of Hope and
Blessing -- www.vohc.com.

Subject: Prayer Request
Hi...I haven't really used this service very much since I signed up as a
member but I really would like to put in a prayer request that I want to
ask you to pray for earnestly and seriously. My dad is out of work at the
moment and it is causing a lot of stress in our family. I have been
praying a lot already but the other night I started reading Roger Morneu's
book about Incredible answers to prayer again and I was reminded of the
power of Intercessory Prayer. Please keep him and my family in your
prayers. I really believe that presenting our situation in prayer before
Jesus will bring about great changes and transformations in all of
our lives. Please pray that the Lord will touch my father's life in a
very special and meaningful way and that he will find a job that will put
Him in a position to glorify and bring praises to Him. I was just very
impressed this morning to write to all of you and ask you to do this for
us. Please join your prayers with ours.
Thank you for your faithfulness and help.
Yours in Christ
Sara

"Jonga", would mean look or behold. I have tried to look for a religious

sometimes I take myself too seriously.
I am married with two boys, 8 and 6, they will soon be turning 9 and 7, in

orginally hails from Natalspruits, by the way I come from Cape town. We are
currently stationed here in Port Elizabeth, where I am working as one of the
pastors of the Southern Hope Conference. I am approaching 40 years, I am

am old and experienced especially in my ignorance.
That is all about me and of course I Love Jesus and my passion is to be

Subject: Introduction
Friends,
My name is Nikelo Bangisi. It was given to me after the first two children
who would have been my big brother and sister passed away. So my parents
were giving me away as a gift to God. By the way they were not Seventh-day
Adventists yet. Hence the belief to give me away to God in case death was to
sting on me as well. Fortunately I lived and I wish to thank God for life.
I am married to Belinda and we have 4 children. I am privileged to work as
President of the Seventh-day Adventist Students' Association (SDASA) as well
as a church elder in my local church. Everybody is welcome to visit us much
we enjoy visiting people in distant places of our beautiful South Africa.
I work as a Commercial Officer for Anglogold, the largest gold mining
company in the world. I negotiate contracts of supply and delivery to all
our mines.
This discussion forum has been brought joyful experiences in my life since I
joined it. May we continue to discuss issues as lively as we can.
God bless you all.

Is it possible to have all the introduction for all the members stored in
one file, so that with all our new members we can direct them to the
relevant site. I would also like to know how big the family is, one of
these days, who knows, we might just organise one big gathering, or do we
have to meet in heaven?, what if others don't make it(not serious).

Thanks for the introduction. Unfortunately you did not say in which part of the
nation (city/town) you are in so that next time some of us happen to be there we
can visit (we take your invitation seriously you know).
Another issue is the SDASA thing. I had "rumours" that you were planning to hold
SDASA Conference at the end of this year in Cape Town. Is that true? If so could
you publicise the details (dates, location, program, costs etc.)

Absolutely good idea Jongimpi. The Cyber-Family needs to meet someday. I also
wish to link this up with my proposal for us laymen and laywomen who have an
idea about the internet to assist the church in this country (Union,
Conferences, local churches, institutions) develope websites and have them
coordinated.
Jerry, could you please one way or the other pass on the information and tools
on webdesign which you said you have. How you will do it, I'll leave that up to
you.
Greetings from the 70% cloud-covered Cape Town.

Alvin,
My church is in Kagiso, West of Johannesburg. The SDASA conference will not
be in Cape Town. It will be at the University of the North in Pietersburg
form 23 December 1999 to 2 January 2000. The conference fee is R370,00. The
guests are Pastors Kubheka (Mafeking) and Ruguri(EAD). We are still securing
the last person who will handle Daniel and the Revelation during conference.
I hope this suffices for now.
God bless you.

They call me Takalani, My father had a name for me that he loved so much and
there is no need for the members to know it.
I was born in Sophiatown, live in Diepkloof and to many places in SA. I
studied in Diepkloof, Venda and Cape Town.
I am a lay member in Kagiso Church not far away from Krugersdorp, I am
active in the District work as well. Married to Matlakala we are blessed
with five children who are still in love with the Lord. Their ages ranges
between 14 to 24.
The lord is good and sure to keep His promises
He is coming

Friends
Jongimpi is my name, well I did not choose the name, it was given to me, I
am told that the name has something to do with war, "impi" the first part,
"Jonga", would mean look or behold. I have tried to look for a religious
significance for the name, I havenot been successful. Do not worry I am a
very nice guy and I like to laugh a lot, especially at myself, you see
sometimes I take myself too seriously.
I am married with two boys, 8 and 6, they will soon be turning 9 and 7, in
few weeks time, Bulumko and Sihle. My wife's name is Nomthandazo, who
orginally hails from Natalspruits, by the way I come from Cape town. We are
currently stationed here in Port Elizabeth, where I am working as one of the
pastors of the Southern Hope Conference. I am approaching 40 years, I am
saying this so that when I make comments, you must not disagree with me, I
am old and experienced especially in my ignorance.
That is all about me and of course I Love Jesus and my passion is to be
where He wants me to be and to know Him better.
Cheers

Sara,
I'm sorry to hear these sad news. Be assured that the Lord is watching
with great interest His children. I believe that your difficulties will
soon come to pass, Hold On A little Longer.
We will remember your family in our prayers.
May He give you strength to hold on.
Your brother in Christ

Alvin,
Incidentally I discovered that the Transvaal Conference will hold a special
session sometime in the hear future to discuss fully the possibility of
uniting with the TOC. Therefore I agree this topic must return again, even
if it was extensively discussed in the past. We will not be doing justice to
the topic should we drop it. I have a newspaper article in my possession
about the Cape Conference people failing to merge due to lack additional 5%
needed to make 75% in order to merge. It was a pathetic thing for us to be
publicised like that in the newspaper. Of course, newspapers publish bad
things, whereas there are so many good things that happened about our
church.
Cheers

Hie sa-sda,
Another topic which should never go off the table is
"Human relationships among Adventists in South Africa" This would include
racial, tribal/ethnic raltionships and the (still live and kicking) issue of
2 SDA conferences in the Cape. As long as this "problem" is not resolved it
should always be an issue which we must all publicly and openly discuss. No
short-cuts.
Alvin.
