Malozwe,
I wish to express one's appreciation for the compromise arrangement
worked out to introduce some form of coherence and order into the
contributions. It could not have come at a better time.
The only further addition on my part would be on amending the
captions of different inputs. For example, we had a string of
responses carrying the subject:"Me, Myself, I". The brother was
introducing himself to the group and covered a useful point
somewhere. All other e-mails that responded carried the same subject
or caption and sadly, the main thrust of discussions was hidden in
there. I would assume that much as one would want to read all mails
received, the caption quickly catches the eye. I was equally guilty
because I responded to the same mail , with the same caption YET was
addressing the question of God's true Church. Somebody's gotta do the
management and streamlining somewhere.
Keep up the good work. Let all freely participate in the
deliberations. God bless.
To know Him and to make Him known.
Lulama R.
this humble learner

Alvin,
You raised some important questions. I think we definately need to be flexible. If a particular topic needs more time, we will increase the time. It all depends on you (the members), I will do what you want me to do.
Let's try this out, if it does not work will change it, wise people always change their minds.
May you all have a happy Sabbath, don't forget to read your SS Lesson.
Christ is just around the corner!

I am told that there is a feeling among some of our members that this is a forum for intellectuals who are somewhat above the rest of us. I need some help on how we can change this perception. I agree that some of our contributions, especially mine, are too hash, I need a lot of grace. May be that's one of the reasons why others are afraid to air their view. All need to try harder to kind to one other.
> My prayer is for this list to be a comfortable home for all us. This should be that place where we can ask question (even those that we think are stupid ones) without fear. We need to go down to the basics, instead of dealing with philosophical question we need to address the day to day issues, things that affect our lives. If we fail to do that we will have failed in our mission.
>
That is true, that many people do not participate in the discussions because they somehow feel unable to make any contribution. But the fact is that we are all searching for the truth and no one knows it all. No one should feel "inferior" and "inadequate" to make a contribution. I too can only appeal to everybody to make his/her contribution. Believe me (and as the List Administrator has said) there is absoulutely NO question or opinion or contribution which would be regarded as stupid or dull
(as long as it is formulated in Christian spirit and love). That is how we grow in knowledge and understanding. So I too want to encourage all of us to actively participate. Such a discussionforum only achieves its objectives if people actively participate. If everybody had to adopt a "Silent- Participant" attitude and just waits to read what others write then there would be nothing to read since no one would be writting.
Can I just comment on the issues put together by the List Administrator. I also think such a forum helps the members in a practical way to know other brothers and sisters around the nation i.e. next time I am in Joburg I know there is a brother/sister XYZ and maybe I could give him/her a call or meet him/her at the JKM SDA Church on Sabbath.

> 3.We will have a week or two week's sessions that focus on a particular theme. E.g. Prophesy, Evangelism etc.
> 4.We will also have open week * where people can discuss anything and everything, including previous topics.
I am still having problems with having a "fixed" plan and topics which will be discussed for two weeks.
i) What about if the topic does not attract a lot of participattion during those 2 weeks? Will there be defeaning silence for 2 weeks until a new topic comes?
ii) What if the topic is so interesting and the 2 weeks are not enough? Will the discussion be terminated since the 2 weeks are over?
iii) What if something comes up which we never planned for e.g. let's assume the GC Session next year votes for the ordination of women pastors (I don't even know if it is on the agenda) but during that time the topic on "sa-sda" is say "Why are they two SDA Conferences in the Cape?" Do we have the flexibility to change topics overnight?
iv) What about the creativity of the members - by setting up a fixed topic plan are we not inhibiting the creativity of the participants. If there is a fixed plan already in place then who will brainstorm on topics to be discussed on the forum? Are we by doing so not defeating one of the very important features and objectives of such a forum i.e. open disussion on ANY TOPIC one feels is important, at ANY TIME one feels is appropriate and know that ALL OTHER FORUM MEBERS will jump on and pick
it up.
These are just my personal observations and I am of course willing to go on with what the majority sees as appropriate.

Topics for discussion
Here is a list of topics that I have received so far
Salvation (all the phases) and
Nature of Christ;
Gospel Commission
Christian church in general;
History of Adventism;
Eschatology;
Crisis in Adventism
Southern Africa Church History
Power in the church
Prayer and Fasting
This is how we are going to do this.
I would like to request you to send me three topics that you would like us to discuss, they can be one of those listed above or they can be new topics. I will place these topics in a spreadsheet and at the end of the week/session I will pick the most popular ones (not always) for discussion in the following session. That's called demo-crazy.
Important Note:
Next week is an open week: We can discuss anything and everything that you want.
I would us to focus on the following two items:
1. Introducing ourselves
There are many of our members who didn't introduce themselves when they joined and some of us have been part of this discussion group from its inception about a year and half ago so we never felt the need to re-introduce ourselves.
Tell us you name, where you live which church you attend, where did you live before/or where you were born etc. Tell us as much about yourself as you like.
If we are really one family, we should know each other.
This will be a time to enquire about friends and relatives. It will be the time to network, so that next time you find yourself in PE, you can go and fellowship at Pastor Papu's church, or when you find yourself in New Jersey of New York City and stop by and pay me a visit etc.
SA-SDA should be our second home church, when you have a problem you should know that you have a big cyber-family, you can told to the whole family about it or you can send someone a personal mail. We can only do that when we know each other.
2. Personal testimonies (how did you come to meet the Lord, and what has He done for you lately?)
Personal testimonies are very powerful for they bring the gospel to our day to day life. They testify that our religion is not only historical, but it is present and continues religion. If He can do it for me, surely He can also do it for you.
Problem with to many mails? Or you are going to vacation and you don't want fill up the mail server?
Send me a mail at masabatha@yahoo.com we can make an arrangement.
I can arrange that you either receive one digest mail a day or temporarily block your email address from receiving our mails.
Go tell it to the mountains, that Jesus is Lord!
