I watched as the news streamed yet another killing
spree before my eyes. It was Tuesday, August 10th,
1999. In Los Angeles California at a Jewish
Community Center 5 people were needlessly gunned
down by a yet to be identified gunman. Some of the 5
were merely children, what could the gunman have been
thinking?
I see things like this and wonder where our world is
headed. I recall recent school shootings and wonder,
how could this be? Then as I pause to contemplate the
pain the people must be experiencing, my mind is
carried to a verse in the Bible.. Revelation 21:4 " And
God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there
shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying,
neither shall there be any more pain; for the former
things are passed away."
There will come a day for those faithful to God that
we will not have to suffer any more. If we but realize
that this earth holds for us no true comfort or peace.
Jesus told us in Matt. 24 to expect things like this to
happen just before His glorious return, and so they are.
We can, however, hold on to the fact that God loves
each and everyone of us. All of the people that are
crying tonight, He is crying with them because He sees
what sin has done to yet more of His little children.
You see God feels our pain and hurt. Did you know that
Jesus said in Matt. 25: 40 "When you have done it unto
the least of these you have done it unto me." That goes
for the good and the bad. Friends, don't get angry or
mad about these things as they happen because God
tells us in Duet. 32:35 that " Vengence is mine" He will
take care of the people who do these things to His little
children. However, as Christians we should pray that
the suspects and convicted criminals come to a point
with God that their heart is wrought with repentance.
So friends as the world endures yet another mass
shooting try to pull back from the tragedy long enough
to realize that our prayers need to be with the people
involved and their families. Realize that it is another
marker on the countdown to the return of our Lord and
Savior Jesus Christ. Accept that He will be just in
handling those who commit these crimes. Finally,
believe and look forward to the soon approaching
kingdom of Heaven that we all can have a part in if we
accept Jesus as our Savior and lead a life under His
power with His goals following His guiding. I want to
be there, and I want to see you there to. Do you wish to
stand by the throne of Jesus and have Him look at you
and say " Well done my good and faithful servant?" You
can you know, it is your choice.
Let us pray- Father in Heaven, how wonderful you
are. Thank you for another day of life, and thank you for
loving us. We pray for the families of those involved in
todays shootings. We ask Father that you would lay
your healing hands on those victims and heal them
according to your will. Father bring the person who
did this to a point of conviction that he gives himself up
to the officials and to you. Change us also Father as we
accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior. Just now as we
pray take our wills and give us a will that is
focused on you. Please do what it takes to save us
and our families. In Jesus name...Amen.
