Welcome To The Deacon's Corner
"Those who serve well as deacons gain a good standing for themselves and great boldness in the faith that is in Christ Jesus." 1Timothy 3:13 Why Deacons Do It This WayHere are a few questions you may be asking. I would enjoy talking with you personally about any of this and all of this! Your feedback is appreciated. Why so many positions? It is very important to me that everyone can be involved in the mission of the church according to their desire. Some may only want to commit a few minutes a week or month. Even so, they need to have a feeling of involvment and belonging. By organizing for maximum participation, everyone that wants to help can do so. Why is this important to you?Jesus meets us where we are. He doesn't force us to do hard labor to approach him, He comes to us. This is a very personal matter with me and since I'm not forcing you to read this I will continue to explain. Christ is the center around which I desire to structure my life. Sometimes I use the image of construction and put it another way. Christ is the foundation on which I desire to build my life and character. Using yet another image, Christ is the Master Planner and I am trying to make my plans fit within His plan. Many Bible pictures come to mind, the Cornerstone and the Perfect Example are just two. Jesus said, "I, if I be lifted up, will draw all men to me." Jesus lived His life according to the plan that was set in place from the very beginning to cover the contingency we know of as sin. God has a plan for you and me, also. A plan that involves nurturing and tender guidance. He is "not willing that any should perish." We need to carefully and thoughtfully include every growing member in Christ in the ministry of the church. How can this be done? Each person needs to be involved based on their own personal circumstances.
For example: Let's say Joe is a very outgoing people-person and has leadership
and inter-personal relationship skills. Let's say that Joe is going through some
tough times and can only help on Sabbath mornings. He would like to help, but a
big commitment is really out of the question. I would like Joe to consider being
a Co-Captain for Collections. What is our Mission and Goal? The Marietta SDA Deacons seek to follow the example of Christ in practical
ministry to the body of Christ. |
