Evangelistic Programs
Below are a list of our evangelistic
programs. Please look at them
carefully so that you will understand what is
expected of you and what it means to be a
missionary in Korea.
- Religion Class - Religion class
begins five days into the regular teaching term and ends five days
before (Begins day 6 and ends day 31). It starts a week after
the term to give your students time to settle in and get to know
his/her teacher. It gives the teacher 5 days to promote
his/her bible topic (Parables of Jesus, Love & Happiness, The
book of John, etc.). There are sample bible study guides for
your classes. There is enough material to last six to ten
months. After that, you would have to create your own bible
materials. Use what we have or create your own. It's
your class and your opportunity to witness -- you decide!
- Friendship Evangelism
- You will teach 5 hours of English and one hour of Religion a
day. That will sometimes leave you with a little time on your
hands. Many students like to seize this opportunity to get to
know their foreign teachers outside of the classroom. Your
students will be very curious about you and your lifestyle.
Students may offer to take you to a local shop to drink juice or eat
lunch. They may take you by subway to go see a
Korean traditional palace or some other place like a park. This creates
the biggest opportunity to witness to your students. You will
fine many of your students decline to order alcohol when they discover
that you never
drink. You will notice a sense of respect they have for a person who tries to
live a clean lifestyle -- And Does It! This will often create
a desire within them to have what you have and to know what you
know. Many students have started personal bible studies
with teachers and Korean pastors because of the lives lived by our
missionary teachers and the friendships made with them.
- Friday Night Vespers
- All English classes will finish around twelve noon on
Fridays. This will give you time to prepare properly for the Sabbath.
There is a vespers program to bring in the Sabbath that usually
starts one hour before sunset. It is usually called Friday
Night Vespers or Friday Night Fellowship. It will vary at every
mission school. Every Thursday Night and Friday morning
you would remind your students about Friday night vespers and you
should give them a personal invitation to come. The majority
of the students come to see their teachers but we know that God has
a blessing for them regardless of their initial motives for
going. It is very helpful to tell your students when you will
be speaking or doing some other special part of the service. Most of your students would come to support
you. This is a wonderful time to witness to your students and
other students as well.
- Sabbath Activities - There are many
programs/clubs held on Sabbath morning. Smaller mission
schools may only have a few of them. The most popular ones are
as follows:
- Signs Club
- Students read Signs of the Times Articles
and then have a group discussion after going over difficult words to
understand.
- Translation Club
- A story or book is chosen to read and then translate sentence by
sentence
- Music Club - Songs are played and
students are introduced to the history of them followed by
discussion
- Quarterly Club - Regular Sabbath School
Class
- Chapel Day - Once every two
months classes are cancelled and all students will go to the Chapel
every hour for worship. A guest speaker from another
mission school may be called in to deliver the Word or a local
missionary may do it. An appeal for bible studies is made at
the end of the message.
- Mission Week - Once
every two months classes are shortened and students are invited to
come and worship over a three day period. A guest speaker from
another mission school is usually brought in to deliver the word
over the three day period. An appeal is made at the end of
each meeting for bible studies. An appeal for baptism may be
made at the end of the three days.
- Camp Meeting
- Once or twice a year a camp meeting will
be held. In preparation, missionary teachers, AY's and Pastors
are encouraged to make friendships with students and have meaningful
bible studies that may lead to baptism. These are the students
normally invited to the camp meeting. The camp meeting speaker
is usually one of our church officials back home.
- Mission Retreats -
Usually the first or second week of April we hold our spring
retreat. This is a time of rest and relaxation for our
missionaries. The weekend is only for our missionaries and a
speaker from one of our home countries would come and minister to
the missionaries. This is a key moment for our
missionaries. All year long they are giving and giving.
This time they are the recipients.
