HISTORY

Kingsway High School was founded in 1943. It was officially opened on January 16, 1943 with eighty-three (83) students and at that time had the name New Hope College. The school had two outstanding stalwarts; the late Miss Eva Williams and Mr. V. H. Percy. Miss Eva Williams was instrumental in the formation of the Prep School and she served the school as a teacher and administrator for 31 years until her retirement in 1974.
The school's first administrator was Elder V. Berry. The school, then situated at 32 Lyndhurst Road, was moved to its present location 10 Osbourne Road in Kencot, Kingston, Jamaica. Mr. V. H. Percy was to become the longest serving principal (1951-1952) and (1954-1969), and today the multi-purpose building on the adjoining premises is named in his honour. He was also responsible for composing the school song,  'O Kingsway, Dear Kingsway".
The school's motto remains true: "VIA REGIS OPTIMA EST" "the King's way is best".
